1. I posted this on another forum and thought I'd see what people thought over here.

I was watching one of those history of rock shows on VH1 today and someone called Dark Side of The Moon the "Sgt. Pepper's" of the 70's. I started thinking what would be the "Sgt. Pepper's" of the 80's? I only one I could think of was Joshua Tree. What do you think?

Simple answer - yes. I don't think there's much that needs to be said about it lol.

I totally agree....same could be said for Achtung and the 90s

Btw DSOTM is NOT the Sgt Peppers of the 70s, that title belongs to Whos Next

I'm sorry but two people are wrong and their names rhyme with stj0691 and digitize.

Really? Who's Next? I'm a Who fan and I'm not hearing it.

I see where you're getting at.... some folks prefer the early stuff and some the later, but Whos Next is the record of the 70s, end of discusion.
  7. Nope. Not hearing it. I guess it's one of those things where we'll have to agree to disagree... that I'm right*.

I kid. Who's Next is one of the greatest albums ever and often overlooked. Seriously, if I could learn how to play "Won't Get Fooled Again" on bass before I croak I'd be a happy guy.
  8. Yes
  9. As a U2 fan, I'd probably say yes. But when I take off my fan glasses, I notice that in the eighties some other albums had the same or more relevance.
I think JT ties with Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA. Even bigger is imo Michael Jackson's Thriller. That would be my Sgt. Pepper of the 80's. Or maybe Purple Rain?...

  10. I'd add to Achtung Baby also The Verve's Urban Hymns as the Sgt. Pepper's of the 90's

Right about Thriller. I heard it is the most sold album ever. Whether you like it or not, that's a great achievement.
