  1. I notice a lot of bootlegs are divided into 2 or more parts even though they don't really have to be (I presume this since I've seen several examples of top quality bootlegs with 20-28 songs that are not divided at all). Why is this?

    I would also like to know what "lossy" and "lossless" means, when speaking about bootlegs.
  2. the split bootlegs are caused by restrictions put in place by the upload services. Rapidshare only allows 100MB upload so if a show is over 100MB in size it has to be multiple links. Megaupload and others offer larger downloads but don't really suit our needs so unfortunately split bootlegs are here for the time being. If you want to help out you can upload bootlegs yourself into 1 megaupload and post the links here for the benefit of others.

    In short though, Lossless is mainly uncompressed data and is the closest representation of the original recording thus returning better audio quality.

    MP3 in the other hand is the same files squished and compressed in order to shrink the file size. A standard Lossless gig can be 700mb but the same show in MP3 can be as little as 100MB so lots of data is lost resulting in inferior sound quality.

    Lossless sounds better but the file sizes are large. MP3 trades sound quality in order to reduce file size.
  3. So it's not possible that some of the boots of this nature I saw was provided by Rapidshare?

    Furthermore, what "needs" does Rapidshare fit that Megaupload and Mediafire don't? How does uploading a bootleg (indirectly) to U2-start work?

  4. Most bootlegs have a file size bigger than 100mb. Rapidshare used to have a 100 mb limit though (now 200mb), therefore the file had to be split up in 2 parts.

    Lossless and lossy compression are terms that describe whether or not, in the compression of a file, all original data can be recovered when the file is uncompressed. With lossless compression, every single bit of data that was originally in the file remains after the file is uncompressed. All of the information is completely restored. Lossy compression reduces a file by permanently eliminating certain information, especially redundant information.

    see above for lossless definition.

    The 1 link bootlegs you saw are likely to have been megaupload. We use Rapidshare because the files last longer and it is much easier to upload multiple bootlegs at one time. Megaupload won't allow simultaneous uploads making uploading lots of show a very lengthy proccess.

    We pay Rapidshare for server space that we upload all our bootlegs to. We then post the links here and you guys use those links to download from the Rapidshare servers.

  8. Thats true with rapidshare. We dont pay any other upload services. Only rapidshare. It fits our needs.
