    Performance

A promising setlist and their enthusiasm for their new songs off of War make the band's performance here in Scotland a good one. You can tell that they haven't quite figured out how to play the new songs off of War yet, but their energy in playing them makes up for it. I don't know it it's for that reason, but the Boy and October songs in this show seem to stand out a litle more than usual. Gloria, Brick, and ADWM thunder along, while Seconds, NYD, SBS, and later on, Surrender, seem to falter a little. The middle section of the show is the highlight for me, where the October album gets some deserved attention--I Fall Down, October, and Tomorrow all display great performances here. Bono's vocals shine on Party Girl and 40, and when the show ends, I'm left feeling like I got both a good snapshot of the band's career thus far and a good idea of where they're about to go next.

    Audience

You can tell fom the start it's going to be a stellar audience when they nearly drown Bono out on the "2-3-4!" at the start of Gloria. They neither interfere with the listening experience nor extract from it. Great crowd overall.

    4.5 stars

    Sound

Hollow and distant at times, but for the most part, a good balance of band and audience. Adam and Bono come through a bit heavy at a couple spots, but nothing majorly off-putting.

    Highlights:

    A Day Without Me
    I Fall Down
    October
    Tomorrow
    11 O'Clock Tick Tock
    40

    Overall:

Very good early War show. This is worth keeping for the rare performances of Tomorrow and A Celebration alone, but moreso for how it showcases a band who seems to be figuring out how to channel all the raw energy of their eariler shows into a more stellar performance. Compare this show with their Red Rocks performance a few months later and you can hear the development.

Nice one! Tomorrow is lovely here!
  3. I propose that BRT takes a break for a while until the new album excitement dies down.

Participation was a little lacking this round and that's attributable to the leak and consequently the release.

    Does that sound ok?

Sure, gives me time to think of the next boot
  6. Review of Pre WAR tour spectacular:

    [Performance]

This was one of those nights where U2 were on fire. The certainly were excited about the release of the new album (War) and the tour to come. What I did notice is some of the newer songs sounded raw, and would get better as the tour went on. The boys went right through the set, playing through the material with ease. What I noticed is they were playing tight, but not really enjoying themselves with the new stuff. Sure they were excited to play it, but were also uneasy. Some of the October material such as Tomorrow really gets you to ask if you're at a U2 concert or not. I think they finally settled down with the last three of the regular set. They were U2's most well known songs, which gave them breathing room. Because of this the encore was enjoyable, and you could tell they did so. In conclusion, U2 were excited and nervous playing this one, with a few exceptions. It's a Pre-War Tour show, though.

    [Audience]

The audience were really estatic with this one, and you can hear them enjoy themselves. It didn't interfere at all with the show, but perhaps added to the performance. Not at the level of other shows in other areas, but they were LOUD.

    [Sound]

Again, we're spoiled by such a great recording. Not the best, but preferable audience quality enough to be a keeper on a portable device.

    [Overall]

If you love this era, this one's for you. I'm not the biggest fan of Pre-TUF U2, but I have to admit this one's good. The highlights for me would have to be 'Out of Control', '11 O'Clock Tick Tock', and 'I Will Follow'. Another note, they're my favorite tracks from this era in general, so they could be 'just okay' versions to another reviewer.
  7. I've been... O W N E D !!!!

PS. I support aussies' idea a lot. We should quit the BRT until all the hype about the new album gets down a bit...

  8. I loved this performance of Tomorrow! I'm glad you picked this boot just for that.

I also agree/support taking a break from the BRT in favor of our wonderful new album.

This one is one of my personnel favourites due to the pure emotion and rawness of the gig, anybody with me?
