Nice idea...I always think about this, not just for Africa, but for Latin America too. The thing is, economy, at least in Africa, seems to find a barrier: politics.
I't would be nice. If presidents and dictators didn't get in the way of this.

edit: The African Union couldn't care less for the current situation.

That's indeed the biggest problem. If Africa REALLY wants the dictators should get along. And that will never happen. BUT the European Union also started with 6 countries...now there are 27 (?) members...

And I'm not sure it would work in Latin America...Brazil vs Argentina

Indeed...but the more African people know about trade, market, etc the less they will want dictators, and corrupt politicians...Europe isn't a continent that has a lust for dicatorships...it was always very democratic, even in Cold War times...but that's my humble opinion.

Maybe it would Mark...the 'Brazil vs Argentina' is a football thing...when it comes to money, everyone gets together...except the populist countries, like Venezuela and Bolivia (now Equator too), politics getting in the way again.

    *ok, this convo is off-topic!

Oh, I thought the Brazil-Argentina thing was also political...In that case it might work indeed. And there will always be countries like Venezuela and Bolivia; those should just be 'ignored'. Norway for instance isn't in the EU either...

*yeah...maybe we should take this GP?
  5. I'll be off now. Bye all!

Well, at least, politicaly, we don't have too much problems with Argentina.
Well, it's kinda hard to ignore them when they steal your oil company, gas company etc. yes, they do it.

    *i think so!
