U2 don't write bad songs. They play good songs badly. Unless it's Red Light.
There is an alternative version of One with different parts on something called a solicitation kit. I prefer that version of One over the Achtung Baby version.
They do write bad 'songs', in the sense that they get too carried away with being artists and forget that they're making music, eg. Elvis Presley and America, Miami and Original Soundtracks No 1. (working with Brian Eno doesn't help)
And Exit (especially live) and Acrobat are brilliant, dark songs. I remember I skipped Exit on the when I first listened to the JT way back, cause I couldn't hear anything, I only really 'discovered' it when I listened to the JT remasters and the live versions on youtube (ie the R&H clip and Paris 1987).
Acrobat grows on you as well, has great guitar, lyrics, imagery and singing eg "to take the cup, to fill it up/ to drink it slow, can't let you go" and they way he whispers the 'what are we going to do.. now it's all been said' line before the Edge's guitar screams in.
The last three songs on AB, are the best ending of any album they've done.
