    Hilarious!

  5. The guy who wrote that review clearly has an axe to grind against the band.
    U2 polarises opinion remember.

  6. I agree. This guy is a joke! Perhaps is wife call him "scooby doo"

  7. I don't think so. The guy is a genuine fan, just not giving them a free pass to greatness. Nothing wrong with that.
  8. was wondering when the header was going to change...great choice

Are we talking about the same review?

How is he a genuine fan?, he's a music reviewer, who as you can tell from the review does not have much respect from the band, and any he shows is probably out of deference to the editor or to make his review seem less one-sided.

It's obvious by his thinly veiled insults on the musicianship of the band such as the 'Adam Clayton Root Note Drinking Game' and references to 'rudimentary slide guitar solo's' by the Edge that 'suggests he's never even seen a guitar before'.

Furthermore he suggests that much of the songs shamelessly borrow from other works whether it be Tears For Fear's keyboard sounds and even 'the incidental music from the last Prince of Persia video game'. He even suggests that GOYB is plagiarism with 'Elvis Costello.. smiling, humming 'Pump It Up' under his breath as he dials his lawyers and wonders what sort of settlement to demand." (I wonder what he thinks of Viva La Vida then)

Then he takes potshots at Bono calling him a 'third-rate Bob Dylan' and nominating him for Dumbest Lyric of 2009.

Hardly a genuine fan in my book.

  10. doesn't happen very often but I agree with Vanquish here. It's ok not to soak the band with praise, but that review, I could tell he didn't really like the band or at least was a cynic from the first word
