1. To hell with all the artwork etc., we've finally got some concrete news regarding the album itself! Huzzah! Now commences the wait to discover news of the tour and what the tour will be called etc., but that's off-topic so I shan't go on any further. BRING ON MARCH!

And I got the same theory as Jake: Mercy won't be as a track on the album: it's massivly re-edited and it's now Moment Of Surrender.
Or like Katherine says: This era's Lady With The Spinning Head

Mercy got bumped for a few reasons. One is that Larry said that the album shouldn't out stay it's welcome and that he felt 11 tracks was a good length and not 13. Mercy and Fast Cars were cut.

Fast Cars ended up on the UK, Japan, US deluxe and other versions later so Larry didn't quite get his request. Cutting "Mercy" was the compromise. Plus "Mercy" being a longer song (6:35-ish minutes) lent it to the tune that might be cut.

Bono was asked many times about Mercy during the last tour. I was there when others asked and I'd asked about if they were to play it during the "Vertigo" tour. The story from Bono was "It isn't finished". Many politely disagreed with Bono when he said it but that was his answer.

In that, maybe it has been 'finished' and reformed into something else. What? I'm not sure. I read the idea that it was "Moment of Surrender". I suppose it's possible.

I'm not sure how one would be able to tell at this point. Some have posted lists, based on the U2com videos stating that such and such clip is 'this' song and this other clips is it's chorus and... I'm not sure where those claims come from. I am not saying they are a percentage or entirely wrong. I am saying that most of the video clips are short enough that which song they belong to... well it didnt' seem that obvious to me.

I guess that time will tell. The album is 70-ish days away. The first single will be here before that. And perhaps there will be some promo-shows to preview some of the tunes starting by late January to early February.

The U2 Machine is definitely winding up for the pitch. Exciting news, that.
  5. Please, U2....let Mercy die.

  6. I've said all along, very good musically, very weak lyrically. But alas, we're getting off topic....
