1. They could have known it...The song is not a new Vertigo, it's even inferior to Vertigo in my book. And it doesn't fit the album.

    And SYCMIOYO.

It may go up this week with all the exposure on the BBC. But it's poor, no doubt.
  3. Lack of decent chorus is the culprit
  4. I don't really care much about Boot's chart position. Bigger chance the song won't be overkilled like Viva La Vida was.

  5. lead singles sell albums, albums sell concert tickets, they make huge amounts of cash. The lead single needs to do so well.

I guarantee Kings Of Leon wouldn't have been so successful last year without Sex On Fire.

Very true. U2 may be slightly immune to this though and the TV appearances this week and next will ramp things up. I suspect a higher position next week.

Look at Use Somebody - up 9 places after the Brits.

Fair point. For the band it's that important indeed. At the other hand, drjlewis is also right. With all those TV and Radio appearences the chart position might not be too dramatical for the band. And I also think the single would hit the top ten next week after these promotions.

Propably Magnificent would have been a better choice.
  8. *Double post.*

  9. I think the lyrics were kind of random and al over the place. The chorus can't really support meaningless lyrics.

Thats would be the case with a band starting out with little exposure, or a band like KOL who have hardly been exposed to the commercial world until SOF.

But U2 have the runs on the board, they'd do well either way, the expectations of the new records are way more than enough to sell albums. sell concert tickets etc.

Boots is nowhere near their strongest first single, yet they will still easily sell a truck load of the new album.

Look at Pop, I in America no real strong lead single and album like sold fire.

  12. What about Zooropa, that lead single was average at best, i can't remember how that album charted.
