1. The general reaction to the new single seems quite positive so far.

There was a lot of hype for this album as there always is while a lot of fans were looking for the next AB? From what I've been hearing we shouldn't expect this to be anywhere near AB but close enough in standards to ATYCLB.

Whatever that means to you I am curious though that were NLOTH to be a record of songs that were of the same standard in general, no better, no worse than GOYB would you be happy with the album overall in light of that?
  2. Yes.
  3. I think there will be better songs on the album and would be disappointed if all the songs were GOYB standard. Not saying it's a bad song, I just think (from articles etc) that there is better to come - particularly Breathe and Moment of Surrender.

  4. Because then we'd have an album of a dozen fast pop songs with good riffs but weak chorus.

I hope for some variety in tempo, melody and overall feel.

I'm not too impressed by the general sound, but I could live with it as long as the songs are okay. In comparison - I could never get over my initial dislike of the general sound of Pop.

    Alex
  5. If you're implying standard only, then I'd be happy.

The topic title is misleading and won't help with answers.
I can change if you like?
  6. I won't be satisfied..GOYB is a good song, not great. It's fast, it has pace and a lot of rock in it, but it's not the departure they promised so far. I'm sure there's a bunch of striking songs ahead of us and I have the feeling that this single isn't reall a representative of the final album's sound.
  7. Oh, I think that this is the typical first release for U2. They always release a barnstormer first to get people excited. There will be some absolute monsters on this record. I'm very excited.
  8. I would definitely NOT be happy

first thing i thought of when hearing it, if the reports are true this album will have a bit of everything in it. this song is just one side of the prism
  10. All of those that have heard the album, have said postive things - thus far.

I like GOYB. I think it's a pretty nifty first single. That said, it won't be an album all in the same vein. And most 'track by track' analysis (Independent.ie, and Q magazine) tend to say that there is a variety of music.

That all sounds good by me.
