1. As a U2 fan is it okay to criticise them?

I am finding myself worrying about this question. Since being a fan od the band since 1980, I don't think I can ever recall criticising the band. I have even defended them during the Joshua Tree Tour when my local newspaper wrote a scathing attack on their concert at the NEC Birmingham. My reply to the newspaper was printed.

What does everyone think about the above question, I would like to hear your views.

    regards

I guess it depends on what you define as fair and unfair criticism.
  3. Of course it's ok to criticise them. Most of us think they're their greatest band on Earth and only want them to maintain that position until they retire. If we think something they've done doesn't meet our lofty expectations, it's only understandable that we voice those concerns. It doesn't change the fact that we love them to pieces.

What is not cool in my book however is being overly critical by constantly focussing on their flaws and what you dislike about them or their material without acknowledging what they've achieved in the industry and what you like most about them.
  4. Yes, it is. Altough as a fan you should always give arguments why you dislike certain songs/albums/tours. Just 'That songs sucks' is not enough, explain why you feel that way.

And you should always intent to like new songs/boots you haven't heard yet. Don't think that NLOTH 2 sucks because of the additional vocals by Will.I.Am, wait till you heard it.
  5. Of course it's okay...it just a realistic way of looking at them instead of being obsessive and ultra-positive.

    Yeah, that too.
  7. Of course it is OK, even tho I don't criticise them frequently. A bit of realism instead of blind-fan vision is never bad.
But excesive criticism can be boring. Alright, I know, their Golden age finished in 1993 (even in 1998 as some people claims, I don't agree witht that but oh it's ok for me), but that doens't mean we have to destroy every single thing they do nowadays... That's excesive
  8. Thank you all for your positive views, that has helped me a lot. I agree that when I see over critical comments, that does hurt a bit. If comments are constructive then I agree this is okay.

Thank you I can stop worrying now.

No worries, WIRE. You're among like-minded folk.

Agree completely, anyone who is above criticising them, is not a true fan.
  11. Well, an important point you have to realize is that, the more you know, the more you'll get 1) saatisfaction and 2) dissapointment. I mean, a guy who has just entered in the U2 world doesn't know everything about them, but a 15-year-long fan will know all the ups and the downs about U2... I don't know if explain myself
  12. Maybe I get chopped for saying this lol
But I dont think ur a true fan, in sanity perspective if u praise them for everythin lol
In my eyes, no one is THAT good
They may be artists, but their humans
We all make our faults/mistakes whatever u like to call it, small or big
