1. Ah, glad to hear it. No, it's not too bad. Album is better, but it doesn't crucify it as I thought it might....
  2. Haven't u guys already heard the edit?
It's old news in the Magnificent single thread. I heard it like two weeks ago

Anyway apparently the single edit featured in the interview is different to other radio edits according to @u2 which is interesting. Can anyone notice the differences?

NEW @U2 BONO ON BBC RADIO

As spotted by "dislexoteche" in our forum, Bono appeared on BBC Radio 1 Tuesday morning, chatting with Zane Lowe for about four minutes. The interview was taped late last week while Bono was on holiday with his family. It's a fun listen, but the only news is that Bono says figuring out how to play "Moment of Surrender" live is "a little tricky, but Edge is working on it." Right after the interview, Lowe plays a radio edit of "Magnificent" that sounds different from the version being played on North American radio stations. Use the link below, and fast forward to the 2:17:30 mark to listen.

  3. Still don't like Magnificent - it should have been a short instrumental track. The reviews say it sounds much like The Unforgettable Fire. Truth is, it sounds like what the last two albums did with a few odd lyrics - which is what the last two albums were. Nice beginning, awesome bass, cool drumming and nice guitar but the vocals throw it on the street - though it does make for great beats if you speed it up a little. And the edit does nothing to make matters any better.

Just like what was done with Breathe...Eno's off his tree if he thinks it's their best song ever. One of the best, but not the best ever. I'm finding Boots (actually, I liked it straight away, plus Moment of Surrender) to be a great track, still, as well as Breathe as time goes on. Breathe, then Winter, followed by Cedars of Lebanon and then Boots is what I'm rotating with at the moment. Winter definitely should have taken the place of Magnificent.

Cedars is definitely a real highlight, Crazy Tonight and Stand Up are growing on me like A Man and A Woman and Grace did. Still not sure about White As Snow. I know that will be the last one I will end up liking - vocals are nice, Fez is still the best experimental track since Slug and Unknown Caller hasn't gotten any better or any worse from when I said from those original preview clips it was gonna be the best song. Because for me it's still in the top three.

Something I'm gonna ask and see if anyone else agrees: White As Snow sounds like it just was chopped off the end of some other song (the sudden piano note) straight into the song. Does anyone else think that and has thought about it?

Funny just how different everyone feels about certain elements of this album. I personally think Winter is the worst out of all the new songs but still a GREAT B side. I think Magnificent kills Winter. I do agree Cedars is absolutely mesmerizing! I cant skip that song it draws m right in

To me White As Snow sounds a little throwaway when they chickened out of finishing Winter to get it on. Easily my least favourite. I don't dislike it, but in the company it just fails.

I feel the same way about White as Snow, but I think Winter is a throwaway track too. IMO, they must have scrapped it because they realized it sounds like a blatant copy of Viva La Vida
  7. is anyone else having trouble with the album? well, not so much trouble, but the album quickly lost it's "omg" status about a month after listening to it. Now I don't know where to place it within their catalogue etc

That's what happens when the hype settles. Let's see how it will be ranked in 5 years...

On a different note: With spring having arrived here, I noticed that to me, the album is definitely a night/winter record. I just can't listen to the tracks in the warmth on plain daylight with the sun shining. Might be tricky for the tour...

Let's hope for bad weather then..

The hype settled down here too, the days of constant listening are over. When I play the album, I listen to Unknown Caller, Magnificent, Crazy and Breathe. NLOTH, MOS, WAS and FEZ after that. SUC, Boots and COL are the songs I listen to the least.
  10. Still pretty much loving the album. Stand Up is still a load of dick though

    ...yeah...a winter-album...how obvious

To me tracks 1-7 are all very summer-ish, maybe with exception of MOS
    But each to his own

Yeah, it definitely isn't finished. Catchy though....
