1. I know it is til the pain would stop, but it makes me wonder why the official U2 site says pentecost.

I mean, they get those lyrics from an official source I should say (i.e. U2), so I think it is quite possible that the original sentence once was "till the pentacost".

Well the liner notes say 'pain will stop' and they're as definite a source as you can get.

  3. For you. For fucks sake, will you drop this now and leave people to be able to discuss the song and their own opinions (which do not have to be the same as yours). We get it. You don't think it's as good as it could have been. Many people disagree with you. Drop it.

And by the way, you can also leave this Aussie thing as well as I know at least one who thinks that 'One' is a pile of turgid garbage.

OPinions. Make the world go round. You've given yours, we get it. Stop. Now.

  4. I disagree. Bono's said plenty of gibberish over the years!!

I'm just presenting an alternative view of the song , certainly it's much more restrained than saying the song is a masterpiece.

The fact that some people think this song is better than LIB, is either down to MoS being new and shiny, or that they've listened to LIB so many times that they've got bored of it.

As have I with you. Edited

I'm not saying that on page one you couldn't present your opinion. It;s just that you're still trotting out the same old arguments multiple pages on. We know your opinion, we don't need to hear about it anymore. Unless something changes (for better or worse).

And I would argue that someone simply stating that they believe the song to be a masterpiece is much more restrained than the multitudinous posts droning on about interchangeable factoids that you effectuate.

People are allowed to postulate that the song is, to them, a masterpiece. Why can you not accept that?

Yep...or because MOS simply is better according to some
Just a thought. I could be wrong of course. Please tell me if my opinion is wrong, I want to get it right.
Because opinions shouldn't differ of course, that's just lame We should all have the same opinion, makes these discussions way easier

Firstly no one actually rebutted my arguments, they just keep going on and on about how great the song is (seem like they've forgotten/ got bored of all the old u2 ballads).

Relying solely on opinion thing is ridiculous anyway as I've said before by that token I could argue that my toenail clippings are a work of art.

There are objective reasons why MoS is not a masterpiece. Though people may think it is subjectively.

No. They. Didn't. There is room for more than one great song. My love for MoS does not affect my opinion about any other song.

Did you actually just type that ?

No. There. Are. Not. You cannot objectify a song. It is, by it's very nature, open to the interpretation of the listener.

What exactly is so hard for you to accept that others find this to be amongst U2's greatest work? Why does it vex you and cause such emotive response in you?

Feel free to answer that question, but; and I'm serious now; post again in here unless it's a completely different viewpoint and there will be consequences. You're ruining the thread for everyone else.

Firstly: I tried, several other tried.

Yep, MOS gets kicked ass by your toenails, sure
And my mother knows how to play heavy metal yeah

    Give me 3 reasons then

Okay, listen to me carefully, I want you to remember this.
I'm not religious at all, lost my religion a long time ago, before I even came here. MOS is the first U2 song ever that nearly made me religious again. I almost wanted to grab a bible and read it. But then the 7 minutes were over.
I'm not sure what's your idea of a masterpiece, but I think that giving people hope could be seen as one of those factors.
  12. -sigh- I don't think my toenail clippings are a work of art, it was an exaggerated example.

@ Mark- if you though the song was an epiphany, it just highlights my point, as the meaning is clearly different.

Anyway, as it is abundantly clear here that you cannot argue your point with mods.
I will change my opinion and say that 'MoS is a masterpiece and anyone who disagrees is an idiot'.

    There, happy?
