I was figuring that it wasn't that bad. You're already getting over that, you realize your flaw. That's the first step to fixing anything lol 
What I'm trying to get to is why you should not take them seriously. I realize that is a hard thing to do... which is why we have freinds. You sound like those freinds of yours are supportive, so continue to wrap your self up in those freinds, they will boost you up and help you realize that those guys suck and don't know what they are talking about.
