    Alone in the Sands of Time

    They say that you walk by us,
    When times are good,
    They said that you carry us,
    During times of trouble.
    God, where were you?
    When I needed you most?

    I look back frequently
    Over the sands of time,
    Questioning my path,
    And see only one set
    Of footprints in the sand

    They are mine.
    Tired and uneven,
    During hard times.
    Determined and strong,
    During the good.
    One Set.
    All alone.
    In the Sands of Time.

    Where were you?
    When I needed you the most?
    I look back and wonder.

    I look for even the slightest sign,
    Of someone.
    Guiding,
    Or following.
    Helping me along,
    In even the slightest way.

    But the Sand is smooth and untouched
    Except for where my path,
    Has crossed it
    All alone, I walk.
    Fighting through life
    One step at a time.

    I used to believe
    I really, really did,
    But then one day I looked back,
    And saw, that my entire life,
    I had walked alone.

    Now,
    I walk alone,
    The spot I had saved for you
    Is gone.

    In there, I store my feelings,
    Of abandonment,
    So that I do not forget,
    That I walk alone.

    Without you,
    I walk on,
    Parting the sands of time
    With each step.

    The only sound,
    Being the gentle lapping of the sea,
    Trying to climb the beach,
    In an attempt to erase my path.

    You weren’t there when I needed you,
    So now, I walk without you,
    I don’t need your help,
    I don’t want your help.

    I want you to watch,
    As I make a place for myself,
    In the world,
    Without you.

    You left me,
    Now I’m leaving you.
    I’m an island in a sea of believers.
    And I‘m okay with that.
