Yes you can convert MP2 to ALAC if you want to. Although MP2 is just like MP3 a lossy codec. But because this is what was broadcasted it is under the lossless category. Because no quality was lost between the original broadcast and recording
But the fact is that the sound was encoded by the BBC or the broadcast company and there some loss of quality occured. But the same goes for analogue recordings.
