That's where I think most people would agree. I'm not even sure I could argue U2 have four 5star albums. That's how incredible Radiohead's albums are. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan are the only ones that have four, in my opinion.
U2 have two 5-star ones that cannot be debated. I'd say matters get grey when it comes to War, The Unforgettable Fire, and ATYCLB. I suppose since HTDAAB won a best album Grammy it might be worth considering. Anyway, to me, both War and TUF come close but I think I'd only give them both 4.5 stars. ATYCLB has a solid first half but weaker second half so I wouldn't go any higher than 4. A 3.5-star rating of HTDAAB is a generous one from me. I like other albums better than the latter two I mentioned, but none have the overall critical acclaim to merit 5-star status.
...as for RH, I'd give Amnesiac a generous 4-star rating, HTTT a tough 3.5-star rating, and Pablo Honey a 3-star rating (it gets too much critisism). Still don't know how to rate TKoL - and can say that I don't listen to it anymore - this has never happened to me with RH and I listened to Pablo Honey a year before The Bends was released.
If I'm gonna give an album five stars, it's gotta be great. Plus, there is the difference between "favorite" and "best." I tried going through and ranking all my albums. It's a tough task. There were 67 that I ended up saying I loved, but I don't know if I'd give them all 5 stars. As much as I like The Bends, it's a borderline 5-star for me. As far as Zeppelin goes, I'd probably put I, IV, and Physical Graffiti as 5 stars, and maybe II, but it would probably be four.
I agree with your U2 thoughts. JT and AB and 5 stars regardless. I'd say War, UF, and ATYCLB are next, and I'd also put Boy in that group. Zooropa is my next favorite after the big two, but not sure if it's the next best. I'd probably put all of them as 5s, but they are all borderline.
You should try their greatest hits or even some of their live stuff - as you probably know they've officially released all of their concerts since 2000.
Wish RH (and U2) would have done something like this. I guess RH has a bunch of high quality shows out there from each tour, at least.
Originally posted by RUMMYThey've certainly had quite a bit of critical acclaim over the past two decades but they still haven't reached nearly as many listeners as U2 has.
They probably haven't reached as many listeners as Justin Beiber, either - popularity is not necessarily reliant on quality...
