  1. I have friends that say A Clockwork Orange is the best movie ever, and that's their personal opinion of course. Is it really THAT good?

    The thing with movies like The Usual Supsects is that their suspense is what makes them so great and so I don't find them as good the second time around. I thought the same thing about Momento - great movie but not as good after a re-viewing.
  3. I wouldn't say its THAT good- I'm really just going for the novelty of seeing it on the big screen, but it is an outstanding movie. Certainly not one of my 25 best, but maybe on a list of 50. I've only seen it a handful of times too, so maybe I should watch it again. Guess I will on the 12th

    It's definitely a very compelling story, of a complete social delinquent who can't be tamed, to the point where murder doesn't phase him anymore, brainwashed to push violence away and be a nice person....the side effects of the brainwashing are certainly interesting, and the ending is very, very good and a bit suspenseful...though I feel Kubrick's constant intent to make things "as real as possible" in terms of filming, long, LONG shots, and showing every last detail of things, ruins a bit of it for me. Could have made what happens towards the end (and I won't spoil it) truly suspenseful, even terrifying, but instead it lames out quite a bit in my opinion, Still very entertaining to watch and a great weave of the story, but it's one time I disagree with his directing.

    Movies like Eyes Wide Shut, however, I believe Kubrick's style lends a lot of "terror" to them...the "realness" of the scenario due to his directing makes it all the more intense and frightening.

    It is definitely an interesting movie - real eye-opener for its time - but I wouldn't consider it the "best," or even in the top 10 of all time. Those spots are reserved for movies like The Godfather, Citizen Kane, Lawrence of Arabia, Gone with the Wind, Star Wars, Casablanca, etc, etc. However, with movies being an art form, it's all a matter of opinion.
  5. Thought Citizen Kane was lame and COMPLETELY overrated, and that Casablanca was just pretty good. Not necessarily overrated, especially for its time, but it honestly did nothing for me.

    Admittedly, these movies are VERY dated. I was just speaking objectively.

    Best movie (i.e. my FAVOURITE movie) of all-time: PULP FICTION.

    Memento is absoutely great. A movie that I got SO into and was so interested in.

  9. @Rum: Pulp Fiction is so expertly weaved and told, that even people who can't stand Tarantino's style have to admit that it's a very well-presented film.

    @Kieran: I completely agree. Memento gives me MORE every time I watch it, because I start picking up things about Leonard that I hadn't before- real clues that Nolan had left to enjoy after knowing the ending.


  10. I can appreciate that one would like Momento better the second time if you are considering the "process" of making/editing the movie. I was just so floored by the whole concpet the frist time around that my "juices" (sorry if that seems to be an inappropriate term) were flowing as much the second time around.
  11. Does anyone like Guy Ritchie? Snatch is such an hilarious film, and I'd advise anyone to watch it. Revolver on the other hand was a mind-fuck, didn't know what was going on.

It might not give you the adrenaline that you had the first time (on a rewatch), but it opens the door for it to immediately become a very genius movie, seeing it from a totally different angle. That's what makes it a good movie- form vs. information. Form makes you want to revisit it. Information is just a movie you see and enjoy for what it is. Gives you the information.
