It was Bono that got me into U2 (not literally). Heard the single 'In a lifetime' and was blown away by this incredible voice. went out and bought TUF and the rest is history.
At the time I was just getting over the split-up of Led Zeppelin and sad to see the music scene evolve into "break-dance" and a new thing called "Rap". That was New York city in the very early eighties. A friend of mine at work knew that I really enjoyed rock and new bands. He said "Max, you gotta listen to this new band, its totally diferent from the rest. Great sound. They will be the next big thing". So I bought the album October. Didn´t think much of it at the time, but I liked the special effects and melodies used on teh songs. So I also bought the previously released Boy album. That was diferent. A mix of Punk with rock with something completely diferent.. Great sound indeed. But it wasn´t until the War album and the later Unforgettable Fire that I really saw this band was going somewhere exciting with this sound. They still surprise me everytime I hear them.
Watching them on the tv at Live Aid and was blown away. During the eighteen month gap until the Joshua Tree I was able to get and asorb the back catalogue + redrocks vid and was ready and raring when JT came out
It was when the Beautiful Day-video was on TV. That was the first song I really loved, and I was astonished by the brilliant video from it.. I loved the other ATYCLB-singles as well. But I became a real fan back in 2004 when Bomb came out.
