1. Bomb > NLOTH, simple as that Bomb is a successful attempt at bringing it to basic rock with some U2 flare, NLOTH is a failed attempt at going somewhere new but trying to keep one foot in the mainstream pool. C'mon U2, go all the way there or don't go there at all.
  2. NLOTH isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Give the album another listen before deciding if you want to continue hating it 2 years later.
  3. succesfull about sales but that doesn't mean it necessarily carries quality like often very often happens nowadays. where is the attempt to basic rock? Vertigo? Love Peace? All Because? .. pretty failed attempt i'd say (maybe just Love Peace to be saved) ... anyway sometimes the term "Rock" is pretty abused like the last Billboard awards show.
No Line is certainly an overthought and anxious album but taking off the well known songs still a very good album .. it could have been much better.

be clear that i'm talking in the context of U2 only

  4. Actually there was an album called Zooropa.

Only ATYCLB is weaker than HTDAAB. And maybe some from the early three.

Zooropa is a weird album for me. I have to be in a very particular mood to want to listen to most of the songs on that album. And I actually like ATYCLB quite a bit. Then again, I started getting into U2 at around 2008 and I don't listen to radio, so I didn't have to deal with ATYCLB being overplayed.

Generally speaking, I find ATYCLB and Bomb to be their two strongest albums. I really like the musical styles of the two and I relate well with the lyrics.

Well, I started listening to U2 in 2009 and don't listen too much radio either. And I find ATYCLB to be horribly commercial sounding. HTDAAB too, but not as much. And most songs are generally weak and quite uninspired. Zooropa on the other side is an exciting and experimental record where nearly every song consists of 100% awesomeness.
  8. Ahh, good old opinions.

  9. .. and what's yours?
  10. My opinion is that NLOTH is the best U2 album since 1997.
  11. I think you lot are missing out this topic's title and purpose:

New Album [All rumours/news here] (a.k.a. old Songs of Ascent topic)
