1. Saw this on an Apple news site re: iTunes Festival:

"The festival's schedule has also been updated to show when artists will perform, as deadmau5 will kick off the show on September 1, which will be followed by Beck and Jenny Lewis the next day. Apple has not yet revealed the lineup for the final day. "

What are the odds that U2 will be the final performance? Maybe the debut of the new single?
  2. I fear this is mainly our hope... I'd be really surprised (in a positive way of course) if they did it...
  3. Ok so I'm going out on a limb and saying " Summer Nights" is first single
Just saw a video on YouTube of U2 crew filming fire works yesterday evening somewhere in Ireland

    Electrical Storm...

  5. Yeah, I had the same deja vu when I saw that YouTube video --here:

Looks like there are more and more evidence that it was after all a U2 video.

  6. Honestly, I just see some fireworks...how do we know that was the U2 crew?
  7. That's a very good question.
Let me quote "Fisher", from atU2.com:
[...] Apparent U2 video shoot at Lough Sheelin in the Irish midlands, Monday, August 25th, near Kilnahard, Co Cavan. Hats off to YouTuber John Brooks: reedy Lough Sheelin is miserable at the best of times (as is Cavan in general) but yesterday was wet, chilly and mighty windy here, so spending the day hunkered down avoiding the security patrols bespeaks a manly doughtiness.

Asked by someone in the comments section how he knew it was a U2 crew, John Brooks replied: "Radio waves (WT)" ie walkie-talkie. So this is the first confirmation that a U2 shoot has been in progress in Ireland (given that Mr Smooth Guy With Laminate to whom I spoke at the Samuel Beckett Bridge could - it seemed on Sunday, despite the extraordinarily heavy security at the shoot, and the carry-on with the traffic camera, of which Guinness would have had no need - have been a spoofer). [...]

Take all of this with a grain of salt.

    EDIT: Zoo Baby at 2:44?
  8. I wish I was nearby, I'd go on a spy mission, livestreaming for U2start of course! So exciting!

  9. Thats certainly what it looks like, good catch. They will probably edit that shot a bit more into the Zoo Baby in the video I guess?

And it seems to me now that a surprise (Beyonce) release is even less likely, even if B did pull off the whole surprise video album.

Actually that isn't totally accurate. I remember reading on a blog last September that Beyonce was filming a video at an amusement park (Coney Island I think?) and comments said the song was called "XO" then nothing happened with it until the album was released that night. I only thought of that when I saw the tracklist and remembered having read about the video shoot and song title.

I can't believe anybody thinks U2 would copy Beyonce? It was a neat trick, but for a young artist that is going to get sales no matter what, it was only a little risky.

For a band that is overly self-consious about being "relevant," a band that made it clear that they wanted hits, and a band that seemed horribly let down about a very good (NLOTH) album not selling well.

The last thing they would do would be to do something that

    1. A very stunt like thing that Has already been done by someone else
    and
    2. Has not shown to be a sure fire way to get tons of sales that they desire.

    and

    3. No promotion and word of mouth is great for the young twitter fiends and what have you. A major band needs promotion, promotion, and awareness. Not saying anything just does not seem to be the right way.

    That!
