Here's what I'd try to talk Bono into: next year we'll have all forgotten about SOI [useful lie], so U2 will HAVE TO revive people's interest by releasing SOE prior to touring

Oh, right. I always forget about the first NA leg!

I'll make excuses and argue that there was more time indoors, more time to love the album over the holidays in 1991/1992 for fans to take in AB as oppose to the spring of 2009.

Or maybe AB was just a better album.

Great. I'll have to attend two shows now. haha
  4. I think almost everyone can agree that the first impressions of SOI are much more favorable than our first impressions of NLOTH. If you look at the forums, a topic was started on how disappointed people were with NLOTH whereas only the cover art of SOI has irked people enough to start their own complaints topic.

I like the idea of them booking shows in pairs. It's great for us fans because it provides more available tickets and opens the possibility for a lot of variety. However, it's also extremely beneficial for the band because it significantly reduces their travel burdens. Playing 2 gigs over 3 nights gives them much more time to recuperate and may even serve as a strategy to reduce their feeling of burnout.

  8. Very interesting interview with Arthur Fogel:

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/arthur-fogel-interview-artists-with-long-careers-have-them-because-they-deliver-a-show-9761188.html

U2 won’t be going bankrupt any time soon, and nor, Fogel insists, have the world’s biggest live attraction suffered much from the social-media backlash prompted by their recent iTunes album giveaway. “There are vocal people expressing themselves, and then there’s the 40 to 50 million people who are not so vocal and have actually listened to the record. It was a disruptive and impactful campaign. Mission accomplished.”

Fogel hints that the accompanying U2 tour will be a stripped-back affair. “Without giving away any trade secrets, when you get to that level of production and scale [of the 360° tour], it’s not such a bad thing to go back the other way. I’m not sure you can ever go beyond that 360° production and make any sense of it.” U2 will ultimately thrive, he says, because “they are one of the few acts who have mastered the ability to shrink a stadium and to create intimacy in a large space with a lot of people”.
  9. Love this read. It's got a lot of great segments that all boil down to one fundamental truth. U2 as an organization is not run by a bunch of amateurs. They've conquered the world before and are well equipped to do it again. Based on what you've quoted, it's very clear that U2 released their album as a part of a well defined marketing plan. News about a stripped-back tour combined with Adam's comment about booking in pairs leads me to think that they are setting up a tour that is much easier to finance and would therefore take less shows to pay off. I don't know if this means the tour will be shorter or if it will be more expansive, but it sounds interesting.
  10. This all screams "ELEVATION TOUR 2.0" all around to me.
  11. I'm hoping it'll be something more like Vertigo Tour 2.0. I remember watching the Chicago DVD and thinking about how smart the LED curtains were. Even though The Claw had a variation of that in the form of the cylindrical screen, I'd like to see those LED curtains come back.
