The thing about Zooropa that people tend to overlook is that even though it was so great and experimental, it was still a commercial success, it sold around 8 million albums worldwide

Sometimes I think it sold so well because, besides being amazing, it came after Achtung Baby and it kinda popped up in the middle of a great tour, and u2 was at their best....

I would gladly pay for it, even if free was an option- they deserve my money as far as I'm concerned- but do you think U2 would ever go there with SoA?

    My bet is on "no".

didn´t universal say it would be a new format that all 4 big record companies are working on?

They're nowhere near as adventurous these days, now that they have a lot to lose

this is why God created the midlife crisis.

  7. I think they've had their mid life crisis long ago, being rockstars must accelerate the process.

Remember before NLOTH was released and people believing the hype expected it to be the next AB which didn't eventuate? I said the same thing then, it's highly unlikely that they can do something as innovative as AB, Zooropa or Pop anymore, the band is well past its creative peak and there just isnt much room to innovate these days

I hate when people say there isn't much room to innovate these days. Bands need to try harder, not accept the fact that everything has been done.

NLOTH is quite creative in places. Being Born is a perfect example and so is Unknown Caller.

The type of Being Born has been done before, even the reviewers called it Radiohead-y.
Unknown Caller is not radically different from stuff they or other bands have done before either.

I'm sure there's still some unexplored sonic frontiers, so to speak, but they're probably going to be discovered by a younger band. Not only are U2 are past their creative peak but they don't really seem interested in being radical anymore and the chart failure of NLOTH will only curb their artistic risk taking i'm afraid.

Well, in my opinion U2 has never discovered anything, but amazingly improved what was already around, that was their kind of genius.

As for the chart failure, I think there has a lot to do with the album leaking before official release date, and eventual free sharing.

But I agree with you they should risk more, they're better when play non-safe.

lol...Being Born Radioheadish? If you said Acrobat-ish I would've agreed...

I do agree on the 2nd part...I'm afraid for that as well...BUT Kingdom is a good start.

I didn't say that NLOTH reviewers made the comparision.
