1. So where DID "The Fly" character come from?

Bono said that it started when Finton Fitzgerald brought him the original "Fly" glasses for the video.

But where did the glasses come from?

Maybe they came from another video? Maybe they came from 1982? Maybe they came from here? (9 years before Bono used similar, if not the same glasses)

That there is Mike Campbell (fantastic guitar player) for Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. That picture is a vid-print of him at about 37 seconds into the "You Got Lucky" video.

  2. bono has said that The Fly was comprised of Lou Reed`s shades, Jim Morrison`s pants, and Elvis` jacket. Bono looks better in the shades, i must say
  3. no one before or after The Fly has rocked shades quite as well as Bono.

True. But he also said it started with the shades (that Finton brought to him).

I think the point of my post might have been missed?

The point being that Bono's shades look a lot like, if not exactly, like those used 9 years earlier in the "You Got Lucky" video. Might be that is where Finton got the glasses; a wardrobe at some studio?
  5. What is they were made by a regular company with mass production and didn't really make it in to the fashion world because they are so...well, unfashionable?

right on, i like to think that no one ever wore the glasses before him
  8. But the question still is, where did the fly shades come from?
Surely you will find out interesting that Keith Richard wore them back on 1968, during the making of for the video of a song called Jumping Jack Flash, from the rolling stones...
Also, you will find more details on www.theflyshades.com, there you will discover that Bono also wore not one but two different pairs of these fantastic fly shades!!

    Nice segue!
  10. Alright, maybe I'm gonna be hazed/tar-and-feathered/outcast for this....

But seriously, even as a HUGE ZooTV admirer and someone who worships the very ground that the band walks on...

    They're just sunglasses.

  11. I read somewhere that they were first used in blaxploitation movies but I ain't seen any of the movies so no idea if that's true or not!
