  1. as the Olympic Games will begin in a couple of hours from now, I think they deserve their own topic, for discussions, results and more.

    and I didn't mean to start it this way, but I'm afraid it has to begin with very sad news.
    Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritaschwili died after a tragic accident during training today. I just saw the video on tv news and it's shocking

    Very sad news about the athlete that died today. I wouldn't be surprised if they canceled the luge, bobsled, and skeleton events.

  4. Lack of snow around Vancouver is an issue for some of the freestyle events.

    Converse problem in Whistler (for skiing etc). Too much snow possibly. That's all going on this weekend though, so let's see...

    The Dave Murray, which is the downhill course, is a fearsome route. I skiied it a couple of years ago and tried it from top to bottom. My legs almost fell off and I did it in 5 and half minutes.

    Fastest qualifier 2 days ago did it in 1m32secs.

    that you tried is already worth much respect on tv you hardly ever see how steep it goes downhill, unless they place the camera on the side of the route. Those people taking that course at that speed and time are the best. Is this Dave Murray course only for the men, or will the ladies drive down there as well? (maybe shorter route?)

    I haven't had time to watch anything on tv today, are there already any results from the first competitions?
  7. Yep. Simon Amman won ski jumping event on small hill. Two excellent jumps. He is higher class than the others... congrats.
