    +1
  4. Don't think it's underrated. Maybe if it was a newbie band but this is U2 and most of us expect better than this. Lyrics are all over the place in some parts.

The thing about this album is that its really hard to empathise with where Bono was. We didn't get an irony-themed effort questioning love, technology or materialism, or the ventures of what their life experiences have been as in the 80's. We got Vertigo. ...
  5. This album has so many cringe moments... especially the lyrics. Just awful.

"freedom has the scent / like the top of a newborn babies head"

"I'll give you everything you want / Except the thing that you want"

OUCH. I don't think it's wrong to like this album, U2 is varied enough for us all to be fans, but in my opinion this album is WAY WAY WAY over rated.

COMPLETELY agree. I tricked myself into thinking for the longest time that it was

"Give you everything you want / Except the thing that you want the most", but when I had myself believing he was singing "the most" he was really just doing that "oh, oh" thing. I probably just WANTED to believe he was singing that at the end so it made the least bit of sense.

Its my least favorite line on the whole album, especially because it's dropped in the middle of an otherwise superb song in my opinion.
  7. BUMP.

aside from the odd cheesy lyric and the predictability, as far as "dadrock" albums go i think it's alright. definitely better and more coherent than NLOTH (on account of i'd rather they try and play it safe and write a bunch of good pop songs than try and be slightly experimental - yet still commercial - and wind up in musical no-man's land). No Line is a bigger culprit for cringeworthy lyrics also, in my book.

ATYCLB is their best post-90s record though, coz that album came closest to nailing the simplistic, stripped down pop sound they aspire to these days.

    track-by-track:

    Vertigo - 8/10
    Miracle Drug - 9/10
    SYCMIOYO - 6/10
    LAPOE - 8/10
    COBL - 10/10
All Because of You - 5/10
    A Man and a Woman - 6/10
    Crumbs - 8/10
    One Step Closer - 4/10
    OOTS - 9/10
    Yahweh - 7/10

does anyone have the killahurtz remix of OOTS, and would be willing to upload it? i never got round to downloading it. if it's allowed of course, i'm not sure if it's an "official" release.

I also love OOTS. That's obviously not a great line but i never thought to myself "wow that line is horrible" until i saw this discussion. Still dont think its that awful.

Maybe thats a bad thing because there are other u2 lines i find way worse....
  9. Wangmaster - PM me if you don't hear anything, something can be arranged
  10. Does anyone like Crumbs? I love it^^

  11. yep... unfortunately this album and tour is what put my U2 fandom in serious jeopardy...

it was the first U2 album i bought on the day of release, listened to and felt pretty much nothing.. i think the only song that touched me on that first listen was sometimes you can't make it on your own.. after many more listens i came round to a few other songs but only briefly.. i soon realised that for me it didn't measure up at all to anything that came before it.. terrible lyrics, largely substandard songs and generic, meaningless thrown together imagery.

i haven't listened to that album for about 5 years and i can't see any reason why i ever will again...

(oh and in my opinion this album contains my personal official WORST U2 song of all time = a man and a woman)
