I'm sure it's a great deal economically for your country, you'll probably get money from it, unlike the rich countries like mine that lose money by being a member.

I meant to ask how should I vote on referendum because I'm getting very skeptical about the whole situation in EU. And Croatia is still to weak economically ...

Ante Gotovina is there for years already, and he in fact might be released. IMO; he didn't commit any crimes, he's just there because our first president Tuđman is dead and therefore cannot be judged.

Well, when I looked Ante Gotovina up, it sure sounded like he's a war criminal. Like Ratko Mladić and Radovan Karadžić.

That war was an ugly, ugly war.

The new president always learns things that the old president knew. Why do you think Obama made so many promises he didnt keep? Namely closing Gitmo in his first 100 days and pulling the troops out immediately. He didnt do either one cuz he learned some details he didnt know before.

It's easy to say that you're going to do one thing (mainly to please the voters) but if something complicates that process once you're in office, it's going to be hard to deliver.

Yeah, it was ugly, very ugly. Serbian agressors commited many crimes, but so did Croatians while defending themselves. Even UN did some very nasty things in that war. The story of Ante Gotovina is very complicated, but I'll try to do it in few sentances. The thing is, he's charged guilty for crimes that were done on territory few days after he left with his troops. You, know, Croatians freed very large territories but then left them unsecured so all kinds of mercenaries appeared and started to burn villages, kill people and rob them and so on.

When war was over in 90-ties people from Hague came to investigate and wanted to talk to many Croatian generals, but president Tuđman didn't let them to, because, you know, „we won, we don't need this shit from Hague“.

When he was caught many years later and trial began, a lot of documents about war already disappeared from government's vault. And that made things even more difficult.

Now he's waiting for his final judgement. Even som law experts from USA now claim that they can prove that he's innocent. We'll see what will happen with that case.
  6. Well, let's see. Others would say he was in charge of an operation that committed many war crimes.
  7. That whole war overall was one of the darkest in recent history.

Indeed, I read Bill Carter, the guy who did the ZooTV satellite link-ups, book Fools Rush In. About his time in (mainly) Sarajevo during the war. Amazing book about a city under siege, and the amazing people in that city.

  10. No. I heard there's a movie being made of the book I mentioned above though.. could be amazing.
