1. I'm assuming by Hercules plane you mean a C-130. Arguebly one of the greatest planes ever designed.

  2. They still haven't found it. The weather is very harsh.
  3. Which country is providing the search and rescue choppers? American Pararescuemen are arguebly the best rescue specialist in the world, but I imagine your country probally has numerous resources for such an event.

Mostly Norway, but Sweden too. It wouldn't surprise me if we are the best at searching in harsh winter weather in the mountains The weather is too bad for helicopters though. (or was for a while)
  5. I woulnd't be suprised by that either but I stand by what I said about Pararescue.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pararescue

Of the 22 enlisted Air Force Cross recipients, 12 have been from Pararescue.
  6. I doubt you're as good as us in this terrain and climate

This is the highest mountain in Sweden. Not that high, but very difficult terrain.
  7. Aside from there combat dutys, Pararescue goes after the lost in the mountains of Alaska, the deserts of Arizonia, and were part of the response to hurricane Katrina, when there not busy doing Medavacs in hot LZs in A-stan. They'll let your guys have being the best in the toughest mountains. Odds are they have been known to train together anyway.
  8. I'd say both are great.

But we'd obviously be the best in this terrain, just because it's our country and we'd know it best.

We also have loads of non-military infrastructure to use here. Our mountain rescue service for example. People get lost in these mountains.
  9. I'll go with that.

Really I just like spreading knowledge of the exploits of Pararescue. Of Americas elite forces they always seem to get the least credit. At least compared to SEALs, and Green Berets.

We have non-military rescue services here also. In most states, its the responsibility, of the state police, and the state resources agency (think Game Wardens another group who don't get enough credit)
  10. They've found kerosene smelling wreckage.
  11. There's been avalanches in the area. Very high avalanche risk. They've determined the crash location, a glacier.
  12. They say the plane has crashed right on the ridge between the two peaks of Kebnekaise, the highest mountain in Sweden. They've found wreckage on glaciers on both sides of the mountain. I must say I have a very hard time believing they're gonna find any survivors. I doubt anyone survived the crash. And even if they did, the weather would probably have killed them by now.
