Cant we just discuss something else? this has the potential to get nasty, and well we disagree on many things, we get along well enough that we should avoid a situation that can end with namecalling.

Well, unions are pretty big and it feels like the system is working well. It rarely leads to any insane stuff like it seems to do in other countries. However... unions do have less members than they used to... often I think because there are young people who don't understand what it is.
I America they have lost popularity due to increased corruption on there part, and the fact that in most places working conditions are good enough that they are redundant.

Well... your country has been hit a lot harder than mine by the economic crisis. Therefore I guess you could call the US a bit unstable at the moment. Sweden's economy is one of those that has fared the best lately. I won't say that the economic crisis hasn't affected Sweden, because it has. And the economy isn't totally stable. But I sure don't feel a sense of crisis.
I think it may indirectly have. For example... you talk about corruption, that can be a way out when you need money. And a reason for not being in a union could be that you don't care that much because you're just desperate for any work.
Well right to work states have lower unemployment. Union bosses like to point out that they have lower wages, but the y also have lower cost of living so it tends to balance out.
