You're absolutely right, but it's not as simple as it looks.
I've explained it in my previous comment, but Jeremy got rid of it
(Just kidding Jeremy I totally forgive you, but you'll be hearing this for ages )
  2. Second attempt
Maybe i'll better do it in pieces this time, I don't know...

Welcome to the politics discussion, Glenn

Thanks for welcoming me here Some interesting thoughts here really.

Your idea has been circulating around here a couple of times.
But the truth is, people are really sick of the elections (we have to vote for different area's/parliaments/senates...) and actually the last elections weren't legal if you read our laws... But everything's possible here of course.

The actual problem with the elections is that everytime there's a new huge winner, evocing a landslide... (then the socialists, then the Christian-Democrats, now the "New Flemish Alliance" (i'll probably don't have to tell you what they want ) )

So we Belgians don't really seem to hold on to our own idea's, what we believe in
We just vote for who's popular at the moment (eg, the New Flemish Alliance simply won because Bart De Wever became very poplar by playing a quiz for a couple of days... No kidding)

This means that after every election, the new winner wants to go with his idea's. And mostly ONLY those idea's.
But of course, they just came out of the underdog-position, spitting on every proposal from the previous winner, so the 'losers' (we're with about 7 big political families) want revenge and block everything.

    Childish, I know.

Jes, few days ago I was listening to radio news and heard about that infamous record breaking, that situation is complicated, but nobody was mentioning civil war and things like that.

Bad things are happening in Hungary too, conservative government there wants to take control over media, like in totalitarist systems.

Oh ok, I was just wondering because some friends of mine recently went to England and people asked them "Where are you from ?". So they said "Belgium". And those English really became worried "Wow, are you ok ? With this civil war ahead of you". My friends we're amazed some people/countries think about us this way...

Control over the media ? Hmm smells like Berlucsoniism...
(How the hell does that guy survive ?)

That's the dream of some amongst us, to do it like Czechoslovakia.
BUT unfortunately, it's not that simple.

If would be if we were just 2 different pieces, but we've this annoying thing called Brussels (capital + area around it). This is actually located in Flanders, but there are more French speaking people than Dutch and has always been a mixed zone for more than a million people. We have no idea what to do with it, cause of course both sides want it because of all the big international institutions located there ("Capital of Europe").

Last idea that's circulating now as the best solution (:X ), is to create 3 new countries : Flanders, Walloon and Brussels. Our King Albert II would still be King of all three of them .

Btw, we also have a German region, but nobody seems to talk about that...

Ok last thing I remember I said were my apologies for my long posts...
I'm afraid they even got longer
Frustration of living in monkey-land me thinks.

  5. WTF!!!! That seems completely unlogical

By the way, no need to apologize at all for the length, this is a topic designed for long posts
  6. Idea makes some sense to me, dont know how Belgians think about the monarchy though.Another option might be placing Brussels directly under the EU flag?
  7. I guess there are thousands of people in that city who doens't feel "Europeans" but "Belgians", putting them under a continent flag instead of a country one would be a little harsh. But yes, something has to be done, Belgium is a really important country and it can't be like this for much more time...
  8. True, but I doubt they will built walls in Belgium. Also the EU is not a continent
  9. Not a continent itself, you're right, but it's a continental association (if that makes any sense lol) That's what I meant. It's different than a country for sure.

I think the only real solution would be calling for new elections AND if they don't success again, then dissolve the new formed parlament and call for a referendum regarding the creation of two (three?) new countries.
  10. Give Walloon to France, they're actually the same culture-wise. Flanders is a part of Belgium I love, they should be a country.

I am afraid the time for new elections has passed. The whole thing is stupid anyway since there are no borders in the EU and the EP gets more political power every day.

  12. You see, you don't quite get the idea of the country and it's government. Government is there because of you, YOU finance it and therefore the government should be at service to you.

@BelgianBono: I don't believe that the county will split up. Just look at Bosnia and Herzegovina which is in worse position for decades now.

It's possible that UK media is overreacting, who knows, maybe they want to point out instability of EU since they're not in it.
