  2. Idea makes some sense to me, dont know how Belgians think about the monarchy though.Another option might be placing Brussels directly under the EU flag?
  3. I guess there are thousands of people in that city who doens't feel "Europeans" but "Belgians", putting them under a continent flag instead of a country one would be a little harsh. But yes, something has to be done, Belgium is a really important country and it can't be like this for much more time...

    I think the only real solution would be calling for new elections AND if they don't success again, then dissolve the new formed parlament and call for a referendum regarding the creation of two (three?) new countries.
  6. Give Walloon to France, they're actually the same culture-wise. Flanders is a part of Belgium I love, they should be a country.

    I am afraid the time for new elections has passed. The whole thing is stupid anyway since there are no borders in the EU and the EP gets more political power every day.


  8. You see, you don't quite get the idea of the country and it's government. Government is there because of you, YOU finance it and therefore the government should be at service to you.


    @BelgianBono: I don't believe that the county will split up. Just look at Bosnia and Herzegovina which is in worse position for decades now.

    It's possible that UK media is overreacting, who knows, maybe they want to point out instability of EU since they're not in it.
  9. Difference with Bosnia and Herzegovina is that that it always has been an artificial country. You cant just draw borders on a map and expect it to be a success.

    Belgium on the other hand is dissolving slowly in two seperate countries. It has been for years that the 'language war' has been going on. When i was there on holiday we spoke Dutch with a guy, he answered in French. Everywhere citynames slashed and replaced with the name in the other language.

    I dont see any perspective for Belgium as it is now, both parties are better off alone. I know some Dutchies and Belgians like to reunite. I would have nothing against The Dutch and Flemish Federation with 2 states in it, Nederland en Vlaanderen.

    Dont see that happening though, our countries may even grown further apart than the Flemish are from the Walloons.

    You're probably right... Last elections, even though they don't seem to help, last chance and then a referendum. Only thing is that I can already predict the outcome : half of Flanders will vote for independance, almost every Walloon will want to keep Belgium as it is.
    EDIT : So actually we're back to zero then

    But Yuri said there hasn't been a referendum in Czechoslavakia for splitting up the country I didn't know that. Feels weird and unnatural to me...



    @ Risto's idea of Brussels under the EU flag : that's also a possibilty yes. Or Brussels as some kind of medieval city-state. But as Sergio said, I have no idea how the people in Brussels think about that...
