1. You said "just let companies fail". When a company fails, wouldn't that mean jobs are slashed?
  2. Opportunities lost to further create jobs to add to that - in addition jobs lost to cover and progress with those opportunities.

What are people's thoughts on this?

  3. I agree with the idea that Zappa is talking about in the video.
I myself leave in a country where one faith is forced on all people. It's terrible.
I don't think it should be the government's job to censor stuff, but it should be the people's. You don't want your children to hear something, then don't play it.

On the other hand, when there is a public media organization, whether it's public radio, public tv or something like youtube, the responsibility is also on that organization's shoulders. You should make it easy for people to know the kind of content you are about to show so that they can better control it if they want to.

For example, YouTube could have special accounts that parents can create for their children, and limit it so that they can't see everything.
Public TV and Radios already have their own rules about this stuff. I'm not against that.

But music and music videos and most music channels are not public, you have to pay to hear/see/watch them, so the responsibility is on the buyer.

In all of this, I don't think the government needs to be involved.

What Zappa is talking about tho, is the plan to label music records with a sign saying they have explicit content. Again, I don't think this should be regulated by the government, but it is a good thing to be done by record companies, and it should not be based on ideological issues. It should only be labeled if it has certain curses and words not suitable for children. I don't think anyone would consider such words good for children in their right mind, and it doesn't make a difference what religion you're from.
But if you are about to ban a book or a movie because it is about the holocaust and you don't believe in holocaust (one of the situations here in Iran), you are way out of line.

  4. Don't bother me. Some company's need to fail. The auto bailout was essentially union kickbacks.
  5. I'm getting kind of tired of southern European countries' shit economies. Maybe it's time to do some splitting between North and South before South drags North down.

    Too late
  7. Perhaps better late than never?
  8. Well wouldve been nice before the 100 bln to Spain And before the mess with Greece.

But honestly this cant end well. Italy, Portugal, Ireland are next. And then there is no German, Scandinavian, Dutch, Danish, French, and other's money to save them.
  9. Bit sad that northern countries struggle to cut their budget while pouring it downstream to the south.

18 bln of cuts, everyone fighting, but through the backdoor 40 bln left the same week.
  10. If, say, the Euro was cut in two. Then the Northern Euro would be worth more than the Southern Euro... and perhaps enable the Northern Euro to bail out the Southern for less. At least after a bit of growth in the northern countries. Maybe it'd also give some more protection for the North.

Probably stupid thoughts by me. I shouldn't be allowed to post here being as tired as I am today.
  11. True, but not ideal situation either since the Northern Euro probably will get way to expensive, which makes our stuff expensive.

Anyway, we should've kicked greece out on day 1. We couldve easily lended them some money to work things out, but outside the euro.

Now the real problem, fear, has taken over and it will bring Spain, Italy, Portugal and Ireland down.
