1. Plain stupid from the Turks though, entering a countries airspace when the country is in war. Shooting it down was a mistake, far from a wise move. However this sole incident does not warrant the 5th clausule of the NATO treaties.

Nothing will happen while the UN and the Arabic League don't approve military intervention.

Agreed. If they wre planning to intervene in Syria, it would have happened months ago. How sad it is, those 2 turkish victims won't change anything
  3. Whether it was in Syria is unclear though... Turkey says international right is on their side.

  4. Yeah, but they shouldn't have flown over Syria, which they allegedly did. Still Syria shouldn't have shot the plane down..

  5. But that was a mistake... and they shot it down in international airspace. According to Turkey.

  6. Yeah I know, but there isn't a lot that can be down against Syria. Pretty much everything that can be done is done already because of their civil war.

    Well, Russia could do something.

  8. And China too. They're blocking every sanction against Syria that gets proposed on the UN, and nothing ends up being done finally. Russia and China are worried that sanctions or a war against Syria leads to USA gaining more control in the zone - but their purely geopolitical thought is leading to thousands of crimes against humanity.

+Russia's export of weapons to the Assad regime.

I believe that if Russia withdrew its support of Syria and started condemning it as well... things could change.

  10. Well they admit they crossed into airspace for a while. Ofcourse shooting it down immediately is not nice. But the turks took a risk. I mean its not that they change those borders daily That said, again, Syria shouldnt have shot the plane down.

I am not sure if military intervention works. Iraq is more dangerous than it was before, Afghanistan is still a complete mess and it's too early to tell for Libya. Also enough evidence that some of the freedom fighters have ties with terrorists. It is not an easy situation.

By far the best way on the long term, although the slowest and in short term probably the most crappy is that support for Assad drops from the inside. Throwing bombs now is a pretty good way to make sure the two parties wont stand each other for the next couple of decades if not more.
  11. But I am probably in the minority Was against Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya as well.
  12. Syria would be much tougher to have a military intervention against. Their military is strong and their country is small (compared to the likes of Libya) which makes it easy to defend.
