1. Sanctions like that are crazy, Iranians studying here had big troubles with their visa as well. Dont know how it ended, but basically they were about their loose their visa in the middle of their study.
  2. EU just got a Nobel prize for...wait for it... peace. Brilliant joke!
  3. Peace Nobel prices are a rip-off anyway since Obama got one for free.

It is. This guy was from Belgium. But other countries in Europe have already made me some offers...how is it that the sanction just applies to Iranians studying in Belgium?! There are hundreds of Iranians studying for PhD all around the world, and in the US more than any other country...I just don't get this guy :-|

  6. What do you people think of the Scotland referendum for independence in 2014? An agreement between British & Scottish governments was signed yesterday. We have quite a big Scots&Brits community here so keep it respectful everyone

I believe it will happen. The referendum will be in favor of a split. It will be better for the Scottish I think.
The way it will personally affect me is probably easier visa process to see my brother who lives in Scotland (British visa process is a bitch )

I don't think it'll happen, I heard less than 35% of Scots are in favour for independence. Sure it can change in almost 2 years, but...
  9. It's apparently unlikely that it will change. The people who are against independence - like myself - are not giving in, whereas the people who are for independence will eventually start seeing that it is not good for Scotland.

We'd struggle as an independent country.
  10. I am ALL for letting the people of any region decide whether they want to be part of a bigger region or not. Self-determination is an alienable right of the people, in my humble opinion.

On the other hand, I'm not sure if I support many regions' independence due to the reasons that Kieran probably has on mind; many regions who defend its independence would eventually struggle as an independent country or region, and end up asking for money or help to its old mother country (or even re-admittance).
