Probably no one will have interest in news from Croatia, but here it is: second Croatian prime minister (from 2004 to 2009) Ivo Sanader was just sentenced with 10 years in prison and he still has three lawsuits in front of him.
What are you talking about? Did you even bother to do some research before saying something like that? There was no genocide. In operation called 'Storm' which was the biggest operation in Europe after WWII mostly soldiers got killed.
Almost 1900 people got killed AFTER operation and it was done by Croatians, but not by army but by paramilitary forces that just wanted to burn villages and kill people. That wasn't ordered by government or done by Gotovina and Markac who were released last week.
ICC's decision shows that there were crimes but they weren't made by Gotovina and Markač but by groups of thugs that will be prosecuted and some of them are already in jails.
Yeah well some of the arguments you name, were named by Serbians as well. Where at one side, it has been assumed that the Serbian army had knowledge and supported genocide, the appeal of the Croatian case led to the assumption they didnt.
I know there were several militias active in the area, from all sides. Its one of the reasons lots of the information we have of that war is tampered or incomplete.
We all saw the 'fake concentration camp' photo, it has been acknowledged that militias were supplied with arms from Sebrenica and that they were committing war crimes to neighbouring serbian villages. The whole war was a complete mess.
Maybe this verdict is just, but nobody should deny that the whole situation is looked at from 1 way.
For example, the whole Krajina was mostly populated by Serbians (far above 80 %). They were first forced to live in a country they didnt want to live in, and later not allowed to seperate on the same merits the Croatian population was allowed. Same goes for now for RS in Bosnia and parts in Kosovo.
Again, I am only saying that there has been inconsistensies in policy. If we are not supposed to judge croatians for the one of the greatest single act of genocide of the war. Why should we punish serbians civilians in the Krajina, RS or Kosovo for ?
And no I am not Serbian. The fact is that it was an unneccesary war with too many blood shed for no good reasons. Luckily Macedonia was lucky to get independence without hassle.
