Am I the only one that thinks that the UN are actually very neccesary? They might not work properly all the time and sure they've made plenty of -somethings awfully big- mistakes, but... hell, the "United Nations" concept itself is a great thing. At least for someone like me who doesn't believe in countries. It's some kind of brotherhood.

It is nice because countries have a voice. But not really more than that. Still the big countries that decides what happens, more importantly: what doesnt happen.

The worst situation is in Bosnia and Herzegovina, sadly.

I was talking in general. The whole Balkan is full with minorities that want more (Albanians and Serbians and others). There is still lots of tension.

Cheers I've been around all the time but seldomly found the time to post anything.

The actual idea why the UN was established, i.e. preventing and solving conflicts surely does have something to it, but the concept has not been put in action effectively. Had the USSR been at the Security Council session after North Korea invaded South back in '50, the intervention would have been vetoed. Now not only that it is not easy to find a common solution, even when that is managed to be done, the action taken and its consequent results are often far from what they were expected to be - like in the Bosnian war where the Srebrenica massacre needn't have necessarily happenned. There is something huge about the UN that does not work and I believe the organisation truly needs to do something in order to regain some credibility. And even though it should be respected, countries can and do choose to ignore its decisions - take the example of current resolutions against Iran. Makes me wonder, did not the US f**k the Security Council around prior to the invasion of Iraq?

I personally do not have much belief neither in brotherhood nor in countries but that is for a different discussion

  8. Well, bearing mind generally every world was happy in itself, just when the entire galaxy was thrall to the Empire, that's when shit went down.

In other news, Mladic, either he is insane or he's playing the card well.
