He restrained himself from doing that and I'm sure that was difficult for him to do. He really worked hard to win the crowd over (thus his slight deterioration in voice as the show went on), which is something he hasn't had to do in decades. Despite the naysayers, I don't think that ANYONE can deny Bono's showmanship and frontman...ship(?) after tonight.

You're right. I actually never thought about Glasto as a possible opportunity for Bono to talk about politics for a big audience... Must've been hard indeed. Underestimaed that a bit.
  2. they fucking killed it.

Completely loved the show. As people have said, sure, things could've been better, however all I can say is 10/10, I had a smile the entire show and goosebumps for more than a few songs. They did an amazing job, kicked ass the whole way, the crowd loved them, and so did I (as usual).

Proved once again why they're the greatest band, and why they're my favourite band

Amen to that. Thanks for being much more succinct than I was in my post

it was a great show, lots of energy, but c'mon its not u2 innovating. its nothing special. just another date with a setlist just a little out of order. i'm disappointed.

So, what are you saying? 'it was a great show' or it was 'nothing special'? which is it?

just another date?? seriously? only another date with a massive TV audience. How many just other dates on the 360 tour or other tours have been broadcast on this scale?

they failed glastonbury?? are you just spoiling for a fight or were you watching a different show altogether?
  8. I just tried to put this thing in words... but I think that it comes across better with my table pounding during The Fly, my goosebumps during Until The End Of The World, my tears during Where The Streets Have No Name, my fist pumping during Elevation, and my goosebumps during With Or Without You. Add to this list your own set of uncontrollable release of emotions, and you will have the perfect description of what this night was for all of us; the best fans, U2 fans. This was such a win for all of us.
  9. You can hear Bono´s guitar louder in the mix... I liked his playing after the fly chorus going along the bass line/riff!

It wasn't exactly a standard setlist, especially since they started with 5 straight AB songs. After that, sure, it wasn't necessarily the most surprising setlist ever. The question of whether U2 "failed" or succeeded at Glastonbury should certainly not hinge on (what you call) a merely rearranged setlist, but rather HOW the songs were played, the little interactions with the crowd and between the bandmates themselves--the overall AURA/FEEL of the show and how the band came across.

I think it's a little glib that you think U2 failed by going with that setlist (which you have to admit, despite however uncreative it may have seemed to you, simply worked to get the crowd going). It maybe a little easier to swallow if you had said you wished there were more surprises, but to say U2 "failed glastonbury" because of that...man, I think you missed the whole point.

im horribly disappointed. i think the glastonbury buildup wasnt fair to u2 to begin with, but really? another zootv show? nothing but a rearranged boredom with new snippets? yes i saw the show. it was decent, but i expect that energy everytime i watch u2. did you see their awful anaheim I?

not spoiling for a fight, but this was utter disappointment flat out. big fucking deal they rearraged the setlist and ended with ooc. wow. im satisfied.
