1. You can't please all of the people all of the time y'know
  2. I simply feel that PJ don't need to write heavy songs like Got Some and MYM anymore. I'm not saying that guys in their 40's and/or 50's can't rock out anymore (I'm in my 40's and still love to hear Spin The Black and Save You ) but I think they've touched on some really interesting (and less heavy) sounds over the past decade and a half but have never allowed it to reach its full potential. Songs like Of The Girl, Parting Ways, I Am Mine, Severed Hand (a relatively heavier one!), and Pendulum seem to have something very fresh about them but in other instances they seem to regress to generic rockers that I feel they (or maybe it's just me) have outgrown.
  3. A lot of "buts" in my last post!

  4. Nice to see you Ed..... I cant comment on LB vs SOI because my feelings go back and forth on that question, but what I will say is my 2 favorite bands have released their best material in years and thats awesome. And at the the end of the day PJ lives on stage. Thats the main draw for me since 2003. Thats around the time I realized There will never be another Vs. or Vitalogy. Dont get me wrong, U2 is amazing live, but the lack of variety and rehearsed speeches before certain songs brings down the excitement after the first couple of shows of the tour. At the end of the day, would I consider driving to Detroit to see u2? No.

    Ed..IMO the standouts are:
    Milan
    Berlin
    Leeds
  5. Trieste topped Milan and Berlin.
  6. "Musically, we have to be ready with almost every one of our songs [live] & we have about 200-plus." MikeMcCreadyPJ

  7. I agree with you on that one, Nick. I've seen both bands four times. I've seen U2 only in Toronto but have no repeat cities for PJ. Admittedly all of this may be due to circumstance but it's still true. In fact, PJ is the first band I've ever travelled for more than one hour to see!

Exactly! And in reality you were very close to going to Detroit! So as much as I love U2 , the excitement around them will never be as high as it is with PJ for me personally.

  9. And it's not over yet....yet....yet....yet........yet........

  10. The obvious thing that would help for me with U2 is to not follow the setlists beforehand and go into a show "cold." However, this is virtually impossible for me to do.
  11. I disagree with a lot here. They should play every song they have ever played. Why should they stop playing some songs? It would slowly start ruining the purpose of extreme set list variation. Also, I love the heavy stuff, why should they stop? It is what they are known for - it is great to see a few quick, heavy ones here and there. I love Mind Your Manners, even if it sounds like Spin the Black Circle part II.

Seeing Pearl Jam five times this summer and travelling to see them made me realise that I wouldn't do the same for U2. Only saving grace would be if they delved into set list variation to the extent of Pearl Jam.

Oh, and by the way, Leeds was the best. A bit biased coming from me, though.
