  1. You're a dirty boy, Dylan. Good for you.

    I'm not one to tell too many personal stories but I was 21 when Vitalogy came out and my girlfriend in university was quite a firecracker. In any event, I remember Aya Davanita came on and her dancing around, really diggin' the groove of the song, and then, shall we say, diggin' me.

    Sorry if that is TMI but I just had to tell the story. I've never told it before.
  2. Awesome Kieran. One small personal story.... I was 9 when it came out. I loved ten and vs.,borderline obsessed..... My parents are so cool for letting me indulge in their album collection lol. I resented Vitalogy for the first few months for one simple reason. Yellow Ledbetter wasn't on it! I know, I know. But , it was getting so much AirPlay , and I was 9 to my defense, I figured it was on the upcoming PJ album. After I got over that , I fell in love with everything from the music, to the odd package and artwork. Happy 20th! I truly love this band and even though I've never most most of you, I consider you all my PJ brothers. I've met so many great people , took my first road trip and had endless conversations all because of this band. And I'm sure there's plenty more to come. I dream of the day we're all under the same roof while this band blows our minds. One day....
  3. Keep the stories coming as I don't really have one to tell. I wasn't born when Pearl Jam were huge, I wasn't born when it was released. So it is great to hear personal anecdotes about your experiences when the album was released. I've only been a fan of Pearl Jam since 2006, only increased because of this forum in 2011 and has projected to constant higher heights since then.

    Matt, your story is brilliant! I wish I knew about this when I was writing about the album. I wish I was 9 or 10 when the album was released but there's nothing you can do about that.

    If I recall correctly, I felt the same way - and as I said already, I was 21 so excuse for whining about it. However, what did I do shortly afterwards? I bought the "Jeremy" single (which has YLB on it - as well as "Footsteps" without the harmonica).

    I just recorded YLB from the radio with my cassette deck! I remember listening to it obsessively. I wish I still had some of my old "mix tapes". I also vividly remember Vitalogy being played that same year for New Year's Eve on loop on our fancy new CD player. Who would of thought back when I was 9, or 6 with Ten, just how important this band would be to me and how many great friends Id make along the way. It's truly Hard to Imagine.

    9 ? Damn , I was 28 in '94 lol

    Vitalogy , at first , was a bit of let down for me . The sound had drastically changed. Gone were the loud crisp booming drums , and the guitars were just dulled and flat . It was raw , no question , too raw IMO . Whipping suffers from this . The drums are way in the background , as well as the guitars . Some of the "songs" were just so weird . Weird in a bad way . Pry, to ? , Aya Davanita ? these are just brutal . Stupidmop ? WTF is that ? It's is a sad attempt at Revolution #9 is what it is , and it's awful . Try and listen to 7.28 of that . No thanks . Move to trash , click the button . Empty trash bin .

    Bugs I always got a kick out of .

    Its funny , because the PJ hardcores back in the day ripped all these tunes , now they love Bugs , as I do , and I went nuts at my Philly gig in 2009 when it was played . Go figure lol . Raw well done . Do I trick them ? Do I join them ? Looks like thats the one . LOL

    Nothingman is a top 3 tune for me . Last Exit - Whipping is brilliant . But then Pry, To appears and thats that .

    I didn't "get it" I guess , but it was obvious that Vedder was very upset at Cobians scathing remarks about PJ , so much so that EV wanted the bands sound to totally change .

    EVs voice is mumbled , and by No Code forget it , you were hard pressed to understand what the hell he was even singing .

    His hostile takeover succeeded in destroying the bands original sound . No Code sounds like a demo of what would be released .

    Unfortunately , No Code was indeed released that way , followed by Yield .

    Great songs recorded terribly IMO . But thats a whole other story .

    That's a great album and the flow is perfect IMO .

    Bugs ?.... b side to STBC . Those other tunes ? , they should have been left in the dust bin .
  7. I think Aya Davanita would have worked well as an album intro - or better still, outro. My own personal...experience with the song aside, it's not that bad - just poorly positioned.

    Did EV wear the GWB mask after the Uniondale incident? I know they still played the song a few more times (even as late as 2006) but did he still continue with the theatrics?

    I do know this , EV would have had a fucking riot on his hands if he pulled that shit at MSG .
  12. From twofeetthick.com Note: Approx. one hour before the PJ show in Buffalo, local Buffalo radio station (103.3 The Edge) interviewed Mike. Mike said that due to the reactions of fans during the tour while “Bushleaguer” was being performed (Mike cited the boos received at the Uniondale show) that the band has reached a decision and the song will no longer be played live. He said that the one thing they don’t want to do is alienate their fans, and that they (the band) are as American as anyone and hopes that people won’t misunderstand the meaning behind the song.
