I have a NYC mix, from the 2010 MSG gigs.I posted that mix a while back on here. The Boston show is really good,as is Hartford.

Europe 2010, I would say Dublin,London and Berlin are the standout gigs. The Berlin show especially. It's on the 10th anniversary of the Denmark tragedy. After Black,EV breaks down a bit.Its a very emotional show.An absolute must have/listen.

  2. Its hard to include EVERY song.I try to use the most recent songs.Make each mix, from each tour/year a bit different.A song like Deep, that isnt performed too often.

My Italian 2006 mix is of course dominated by Avocado tunes,as it should be.

Today,Im going to list my 4 Nights In Los Angeles mix. From 2009.Those shows, were a bit overlooked, by the classic 4 night stand in Phialdelphia. I attended N2 and N3 in Philly.
  3. Ironically enough, the 2006 Italy mix I made last month has very few "Avocado" tunes. I hope we can still continue these conversations. Also, I noticed they only played a few songs from that album at the 2006 Leeds and Reading festivals. I am still giving it another "try." I listened to it quite a bit back in 2006 but just didn't love it. Inside Job, Army Reserve, and Marker in the Sand deserve a closer look. WWS, Life Wasted, Severed Hand, Comatose, Parachutes, and Gone are all decent. Come Back, is a bit too 50's for me (kind of like Last Kiss), while Big Wave and Unemployable are not my cup of tea.
  4. They didnt play too many of the Avocado tunes, at Leeds and Reading, because it was a festival I assume. Most of the shows had many a song from that release.

Take a listen to the San Fran gig from 07.15.06 when you can. Also,my show in NJ, from 06.03.06 is amazing. Its the last gig from the first leg. They had to stop the show during Animal.Their recording machine crashed. The first 5 songs dont sound as good as the rest of the gig.Amazing time was had.

I'll definitely include Garden and Deep. I really wish they'd played Oceans during this leg so I could use ALL of Ten. Maybe I should cheat and use one of the second leg versions when they are released. It could be like a "bonus track."

I think my lack of use fof b-sides and covers is related to my time away from the band. I am still appreciating the live versions of all the "hits" that I haven't had/taken the time to get into the lesser known tracks - especially ones not found on the studio albums.

I haven't had a good look at the LA 2009 shows, although I noitced they played four shows, split up by a show or two in between for whatever reason.

I'll eventually (in 2013) get around to those Philly shows.
  6. I surprised my wife ,and took her to Barcelona for a week ,in 2006.It just so happened,PJ was there.LOL.They played 09.01.06.They actually opened the gig with Inside Job.Solid show. They also played In My Tree. The Italian shows, and the gigs from Portugal, are must listens though.

I had to catch at least 1 European show in 06.I also saw PJ there,in Barcelona, on 05.25.00.Spain is beautiful.Great food, and great wine.

My wife isnt really into PJ that much.Shes a U2 freak though.

How many PJ shows have you been to ?

  7. Just two, regrettably. Auckland 1998 and the recent T.O. show. I plan to attend more in the future.

    I wish I had a time machine.
  8. LOL...Auckland 98..wow..nice......They played in your city many times. You missed the great 09.19.2005 Toronto show huh ? Bono jumped onstage with PJ.U2 played Toronto that week as well.4 gigs.I went to the PJ Montreal gig 09.15.05.That has a classic version of Black.
  9. I saw U2 that week.

To be honest, I have never been a huge concert-goer. Don't get me wrong, I've seen some great bands - some on multiple occasions. However, when I was a bit younger, I was usually a "follower" when it came to attending shows. Over the past decade, however, I have had to rely on my own initiative to get to a particular show. In these cases, I usually have to "love" a band to get off my lazy butt and attend. It's usually well-worth it and I should do it more often. For whatever reason, I wasn't the mega-PJ fan I've become in 2011 in the 2000's, so, unfortunately, I missed many classic shows. The fact that they have their bootleg program most definitely feeds into this recent "insanity" of mine. I'll try to do better.

Glad you really got into them this year. They are one of the most rewarding bands to be a fan of. Hopefully u can make it out to a MSG show eventually! Lol
  11. Im sure U2 were great in Toronto 05.I saw U2 at MSG the following month 3 times. They played 5 nights at MSG in October.2 more times in Nov.U2 can never play MSG enough..LOL

Alot of fans, including me,werent as "into" PJ's studio releases from 1996-2003.Its their live gigs, that are always the buzz. The bootleg program helps of course.Dave Matthews Band have a similar fanbase.Willing to travel and buy alot of merch.DMB just released their 61st live CD.An amazing gig from Atlantic City (06.26.11).He played 3 nights in AC,not 1 repeat.60 songs over the 3 gigs.Plus he played a solo set,in the afternoon, day 2, 9 songs.Again, with no repeats.69 songs over 3 days.I went to all 3 gigs.Amazing.Kinda like what PJ did in Boston,2003.

PJ and DMB, are fantastic live for alot of reasons.Their setlists change on a nightly basis. When both bands go on tour, its like a frenzy to get tickets.Because of this, they release a ton of live material.I never know what songs Im going to hear when I see those bands live.Thats why I have stayed with both bands for 20 years each.Even though some of their studio material isnt close to their 90's classics.

  12. I haven't listened to much DMB but maybe I'll give them a try. My wife might appreciate it as she is a bit of a fan herself.

Somewhat sadly, I have a hard time getting into new music. It very well might be my age and differences in my life compared to when I was in my teens/twenties. Two decades ago, I swore that I'd never be "out of touch" with whatever was the current music scene. Boy was I wrong - and I don't really care. Anyway, I really appreciate the great accessibility of all this live music as it lets me rediscover great songs/albums from my "era." I rarely listen to studio albums any more (played them to death back in the day) but these live options are fantastic.
