1. When I first listened to the Pearl Jam version of 'Can't Keep', I thought it sounded very familiar. Then I figured out, it's on Eddie's solo album.

I agree with you, Matt. It's a great tune and should definitely be played more. It's my favourite song off Riot Act.
  2. Riot Act is good solid disc.I can actually hear Vedder on this release, unlike the previous 3 albums. Its a fairly crisp sounding CD.

Cant Keep,LBC,Iam Mine,Thumbing My Way,You Are and All or None are the standout tracks IMO. Iam Mine being the best.

Some good rockers Save You,Get Right, Green Disease.....but to tell you the truth, they are very similar to me.Ghost is better than the 3 aforementioned tunes,IMO.1/2 Full is good.

Bu$hleaguer is a bit much,to say the least IMO.Released a mear 12 months after 09/11,it was too soon to bash him.Being from NYC (Manhattan) I live downtown,a few blocks north of the Twin Towers site. So,we didnt really understand what he was saying, and we took it very personal.

When the band chose to play that song, in Nassau 04.30.03,I was one of the many fans booing them.Putting on the Bush mask, and mocking him was as mistake.A really solid gig, turned real ugly.Fast.I was like, why not where a mask of Bin Laden ?? The rest of the band, told EV thats it with that tune for now.

The band basically dropped the song after that gig.Notice,it wasnt played at the 2 infamous MSG shows in July 2003.Today,I think the song is hysterical. But,like I said, too much for 2002.

    Overall,a good release.Nothing great really.The Bush song,back then,it left a sour taste with some Americans.Like me.
  3. I just watched the bit in PJ20 with Bu$hleaguer. I think the only reason why they didn't play it after Nassau was because of the reaction they got from the crowd. Jeff Ament said: "A couple of the band members were saying that they didn't want to play that song again. I actually fucking dug it, it was hard". I'm guessing Jeff and Eddie wanted it kept, but the rest thought of giving it a rest. Maybe they thought it was the wrong time to do it?

I did laugh when Mike McCready said "There was a fireman in the front row holding his badge up". I suppose that is a band nowhere near afraid of expressing their opinions on global matters / current affairs.
  4. Wow. You booed PJ. I'm ...surprised. Athough given the delicacy of the situation, I understand.
  5. I'll probably always like Save You best from Riot Act if only because it was a radio hit back in the day and I remember really "digging it" when I heard it. It has about an eight-year head-start (along with I Am Mine - solid tune) on the rest of the album (which I really do enjoy - even Bu$hleaguer) since Riot Act relatively new to me - although I bought it in 2006.

Ranking the tracks on Riot Act:
    1. Save You
    2. Can't Keep
    3. I Am Mine
    4. Green Disease
    5. Love Boat Captain
    6. Thumbing My Way
    7. Half Full
    8. You Are
    9. Bu$hleaguer
    10. Help Me
    11. Get Right
    12. All or None
    13. Cropduster
    14. Ghost
    15. Arc

For the record, I don't dislike any of these songs. It's a very good album. Down, Undone, and Other Side are all solid tunes and should be integrated into anyone's Riot Act playlist.
  6. Just doing some "Eddie Vedder 2011 setlist" research:

There were three songs on the PJ20 tour that I was hoping they'd play but didn't: Sometimes, I Am Mine, and Can't Keep. Just discovered that EV played them all a whole whack of times on his own tour. Go figure. I guess he had had enough of them.

Can any of you recommend a good bootleg from his tour - preferrably one that contains all three of the previously-mentioned songs?

    Thanks.

  7. I did as well. It was a really weird night. Show was great until that point. I've never seen such hostility towards anyone onstage including opening acts but I sure am glad I stuck with PJ over the years.

We Got Shit has a few.Spreading the Jam as well. These are audience recording though,so sound isnt so great.

  9. I know. But,he was way out of line IMO.The song didnt bother me.It was the fact he dressed up,put the mask on, then he put it on the mike stand. At times,he seemed to even impale the mask on the stand. This happened in Denver,04.01.03.Thousands of fans walked out pissed.

    I respect EV.But I dont need him doing that.Not then.Not now.Its all uncaIled for.It was too soon after 09/11.

If I want to be preached to,I just have to see our boy from Dublin for that right...LOL

True.I was insulted by that nonsense.

I dont agree with some of EV political beliefs, same goes for Bono,Bruce,Dave Matthews.I love their music, what they do off the stage,I dont care.I just dont need it literally shoved in my face.

  11. far away from me to create any kind of controversy so .. i just say..
you suppose very well .. they always express themselves and their thoughts without any filter at 360° ... political (Bush and whatever) .. ecological (BP accident) .. social (school, homeless, etc) .. justice (West Memphis Three) .. music (MTV, Ticketmaster, Grammies, etc) .. all just examples.
and they've done both with initiatives and lyrics since ever.
similar things come/came from other "musical heroes" of mine ... John Lennon, The Clash .. U2 (cool they didn't get the same reaction back in 87 and 92 or The Clash during their US tour ..).
this attitude makes me love and estimate them even more
Bono did a great speech in Milano 09 N1 against Berlusconi and .. we applauded him not booed.

ps: Ed sometimes you shoved it in your face by yourself when singing some of their songs .. said it with affection
i repeat i absolutely don't want to be mean to anyone
