Ed continues his drunken ramblings about "war planes being built in Seattle" and that Seattle "is the second largest arms dealer in the world",and that we (America) sell arms to countries, and then "we take them over".Ok......anyway.He also says he now feels bad for mocking Edmonton,"home of Celine Dion" (I thought she was from Quebec ?).He then tries to pull off Soon Forget, and fails on the uke.I think its safe to say Ed is completely intoxicated at this point. He is all over the map, with his statements, and mistakes.
A really nice version of Cant Keep is played instead, and was not on the setlist.Man Of The Hour,Small Town and Daughter finish up the acoustic set.Black is its usual stunning self, great solo by Mike.Alive is powerful, and ends encore 1 on a solid note.
Encore 2
Ed says "it might just be because Im drunk, but it feels like a small bar here."
The classic In My Tree opens.Really good loose version here.I like the slow, solo intro by Ed.Another favorite of mine,Indiffereance follows.Nice crowd participation, good soloing by Mike.
Betterman,Baba O'Riley and Yellow Ledbetter end it,with Ed laughing during the song at times.Baba is really rockin,a keeper version.Ed says ,before Baba,he mentions trying to "as sober as we can,we gonna say.. thank you",and laughs.I have to say,he's completely boxed here, and is actually slurring.I have no idea how he is still singing.
3 1/2 Stars
This show (at least for me),is a very mixed bag.The first set has some classics,as does the encores. The band perform well. But Ed's insistence on bashing the United States,on the 4th Anniversary of 09.11 no less,is in extremely poor tatste. The fact that he actually says (during Daughter) "Dick Cheney, you can kiss my ass, forgive me if I get high,to celebrate the news when I hear you die." That just a deplorable thing to say.IMO,his statements on this date, are actually embarrassing.
Standouts : Long Road,Animal,LBC,Faithful,Habit,Cant Keep and Baba.
I was surprised that they/he didn't once mention 9.11 at the show I attended (10th anniversary of the tragedy).
Eddie had quite a bit of pent-up anger during the Bush years, didn't he? He seems to have mellowed out a bit in recent years (at least from what I can tell from the 2010 and 2011 shows I've listened to) - although he did tell any lobbyists attending (I think it was) their 2010 Bristow show to go and kill themselves.
I agree..He cant blame Bush now Matt..His guy,Obama is in..so..now who does he bitch about ? The gas prices are way high now as well. Notice Ed doesnt say a word, like he did during the Bonarro Festival 2008.I dont get his "anger" issues....Was Iraq a mistake ?..Yes,of course....but like I said, one has nothing to do with the other..not to mention the victims is a slap in their face, and to continue to bash the country on that day ?..Vedder shows zero class .....and,not for nothing Matt, to be clearly drunk, while fans are paying big money to see you perform, doesnt say much either...
You never hear him mention Bin Laden....ever.... why is that ???? And to say I hope Cheney dies?.Beyond classless...What about Bin Laden ?...Does he hope Bin Laden lives maybe ??..I dont know,I guess to mention a terrorist muderer isnt "cool"..and to say I hope a sitting Vice President dies is ok to EV...he was offbase,as he was when the whole band was booed off the stage in Nassau 04.30.03..and I was there booing the shit out of him Matt....I was livid.....a great show, ruined by his left wing, misguided, inappropriate political opinions....
If it wasnt on the 09.11 anniversary,I wouldnt have been as upset with his nonsense,at the Kitchener gig...I still would have ripped him..no question, but why on that day,the 4th anniversary ?......he obviously has no respect.
Certainly interesting to compare how EV and Bono handle these types of situations. Although Bono can come across as preachy (and even go off on somewhat misguided tangents) he rarely, if ever, lacks class/tact.

Bono had always showed class....and was clearly moved at my 2001 MSG gigs....
do you guys know the "AWASH" bootleg? .. it's of Pittsburgh '00 and contains the PJ set taken from the official bootleg and, before, the Eddie preset (if your "hatred" vs him is not too much in these days hehe ) with a nice recording pretty well balanced with the soundboard of the official
nice artwork too
