1. The Philly set looked good Matt. But,its actually more of the same since 2009.I just dont understand the bands philosophy at this point in time.

WARNING...cynical PJ rant to follow below....I have been due for one....this weekend put me over the top...my apologies....

Lets see, lets start with June 2008.The band decide to "tour" for 2 weeks, play some great gigs (NYC MSG X2) and thats it for 2008.Thanks everyone.13 gigs.

2009.The band play a handful of summer dates (Aug 2009) in Europe, prior to the release of the very solid "come back" album Backspacer (Sept 2009).For some reason, they decide to play only a handful of gigs, for 2 weeks,on the west coast, then play 4 nights in Philly on the east coast. And so, thats a wrap folks for the "US Tour." That was some promotional tour for Backspacer.(?) See you again....

The band continued with a solid (2 weeks) run to Australia in Nov '09. 2 shows from that tour are some of the bands best (Melbourne and New Zealand,Christ Church) from 2009. Then, they close the tent for some reason again,no more promotion Backspacer. No winter 09/10 tour, and of course,Backspacer slips down the charts and that is all.

March 2010,the band decide to "tour" again, this time in May.A full 8 months after Backspacer was released. Can anyone explain the logic there ? Lets do nothing for 6 months, then tour for 2 weeks in North America, then take a quick run to Europe in the summer, and thats a wrap to 2010.Thanks everybody.

Spring 2011,EV releases a solo album,Ukulele Songs, played entirely on the (you guessed it) ukulele.

Summer 2011, the film PJ20 is released,as well as a huge hardbound book.As far as touring,.the band do nothing for the first 9 months, then decide to play 2 shows at the classic Alpine Valley Music Theatre, located in East Troy,WI.

The shows are promoted as PJ20,for the bands 20th anniversary. The sets look great, and I wish I could have attended. We all await the release of the Official Boots (since PJ release every live show since 2000) from these 2 classic EPIC shows.Highlights are many,Chris Cornell joined the band for a few tunes on each night.Classic must have shows....

But,whats this,PJ decide to NOT release these 2 great gigs, for some unknown reason a year later we still dont know the reason/logic for this.Hmmm.

Sept.2011.The band decide to tour Canada after the Alpine gigs. The Toronto shows are fantastic, some of the bands best, since the 2 epic NYC gigs from May 2010.

Nov.2011.The band now decide to hit South America for a bunch of gigs (2 weeks),and least we forget, release the mp3 single Ole.IMO,it might be the worst song in the bands entire catalog, and that includes such classics as Bugs and Aya Davanita.

Rumours that the band are in (have been) in the studio, and an album is nearly completed are squashed,as Stone states "we have 3 or 4 songs we have fiddled about with, thats it",in Jan 2012 NME mag.Hmmm

March 2012,the band announce a European Tour (2 weeks) for late June, early July.Once again appearing at a couple of festivals,as they did in 2010.

April 2012.EV cancels his solo spring tour,as he "injures" his arm, some say from surfing.Who knows.

Summer 2012,the band announce a handful of US Festivals (4) that they will appear at.One highlight,Jay Z joins the band onstage in Philadelphia, for a rousing rendition of his rap classic 99 Problems. No question, this show will be released forthwith.

As far as new material ? Unthought Known.

  2. Ronnie or Erik, what do you guys think?

If no one else buys it, I have a feeling that I'll eventually "cave" but with all of us involved in this process, I'd rather not be buying four (I'm happily on the hook for the two Berlin shows) or even five (what about Arras?) shows.
  3. That is actually a stunning conclusion to a rant. I like that.

It's Pearl Jam's way of doing things. You should be happy that they are at least doing shows, but again should be quite pissed that no new album has arised.

Also, the European tour shows were announced in December, not March

    Matt, when is Werchter out?
  4. I think it's fine that they do these shorter tours. They have families and that.

Hahahaha,I thought I booked my British Airways flight sometime in March.Maybe it was all the coffee I drank today, that sidetracked me during my frenzied rant.....LOL

Iam pleased that PJ are touring. No question. To me,it just doesnt make sense to tour for 2 weeks a year, and thats it.They could have spent all of 2010 on the road, then took off all of 2011 and 2012 to do other projects.Instead, they do this tour, stop, tour, stop for 5 years now.

In comparison,DMB only played 12 shows last year.Thats basically a PJ tour since 2008.DMB needed time off, after 20 straight years on the road.Because of that,Dave was able to concentrate on material, and the band entered the studio in January 2012 at full steam.Steve Lillywhite was at the helm again. The new album,Away From The World, is out next week. Its is being streamed on iTunes for free this week. Its fantastic. My point being,PJ need a break.A full year,or 2,to breathe,do other things, play with Soundgarden, release solo albums (Brad,EV,RDM,Flight to Mars),then get back together, record and tour full on.

Its as if they cant decide if they should take an entire year off or not.During an off year,do as you please. But during a band year, its the band and nothing else.I guess they (PJ) would beg to differ.

The completionist in me says "no" but I don't want any of us to waste their hard earned cash.

Just checking: Werchter was the only show from the Euro 2012 tour that included "Spin The Black Circle" in the set.

back home and finally i can blast the A'Dam's

  8. no

no way Matt .. i'm gonna pick it
  9. not for putting more fire on the rant hehe (i'm basically agree with Ed) ...
Jeff is going to release a side project album at the end of october .. Tres Mts? no hehe .. with the new band RNDM .. and then tour with them
hope he's not affected by a sort of "quadrophenia" in the latest years .. solo - PJ - Tres Mts - RNDM .. hehe
  10. Are you sure about getting this one, Ron? I just realized that my name was on one of the older lists to pick up this show. I suppose I got the IoW show instead.
  11. yes and you should get the Berlins .. i think it's enough from you
if i'm not wrong i'm in list for Prague and Copenhagen, but i have no problem to get this one too
  12. I will DEFINITELY get those two Berlin shows - especially #1. If I recall correctly, it had all those songs that I had been hoping for (Long Road, Faithfull, In My Tree, It's OK tag, etc....) at the time of the tour.

Kieran, are you still "in" for Arras? No pressure - just wondering.
