sort of an existential problem hehehe

It's kind of the same as labelling songs like "Hunger Strike" and "Crown of Thorns" as covers. I suppose that "technically" they are but ..not really.

    List time:

    Top 10 Essential PJ covers:
(Not including the two songs I mentioned above or intros/snippets/tags like "It's Okay," "Modern Girl," and even "Interstellar Overdrive.")

    1. Rockin' in the Free World (obviously)
    2. Baba O'Riley (obviously #2)
    3. Gimme Some Truth (I wish they'd start playing this again)
    4. I Believe in Miracles (I've recently gained a new appreciation for this song - Benaroya is awesome)
    5. Crazy Mary (a classic but I just may prefer the subdued, studio version better)
    6. Fuckin' Up (Uncle Neil rides again)
    7. Love, Reign O'er Me (EV really belts out the notes on this one)
    8. Leaving Here (lots of fun)
    9. Sonic Reducer (lots of fun #2)
    10. Last Kiss (a bit overrated but some nice live versions)

There are other great/essential ones out there especially from the 2003 tour.
  2. I love Baba O'Riley - personally my favourite cover done by Pearl Jam. I'm quite a fan of The Real Me as well.
  3. They do a very nice job with many songs by The Who, don't they?

Two others that I should have mentioned:
"The Kids Are Alright" from (I think it's) Cincinnati 2000 and "Let My Love Open the Door" from Soldier Field, Chicago 1995.
  4. I dont think anyone, other than EV,can sing Daltrey ....he's such an intense singer...EV does a great job doing Who tunes...
  5. i share at 100% the opinion of Eddie as the best (by far) alter egoof Daltrey .. same for The Doors (listen to the RnR Hall of Fame induction) .. and Mother .. it seems to have been written for him to sing.

that top 10 is more than fair without any doubt like it is that number 1
Crazy Mary .. is it still a cover?? hehehe
love you add I Believe in Miracles and Sonic Reducer
i don't wanna be the usual early 90's but i mention I'ver Got A Feeling
and what about "it's time to Kick Out The Jams motherfuckers"? better if with Mark Arm and Steve Turner
a special one for me is Know Your Rights
there are lots of covers and very very few failed

  6. Best performance of Baba O'Riley for me. You don't have to watch the entire video but just watch it for the scream - "YEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH". It's epic. But I know you will all watch the whole video since it's that good.
  7. Oh, I forgot about the Van Halen cover they done! Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love. They done that song justice! You would think "Pearl Jam doing Van Halen? Nah, it'll sound shit". They owned it.

    speechless .. excellent choice Kieran
  9. I'd do very dirty work just to be in that crowd and witness that song.
  10. I need to learn some of Yellow Leadbetter on guitar. I very often feel like starting that opening riff.

    I can't believe I forgot about "Mother!"
  12. Baba,Love Reign and The Real Me are great covers by PJ..and I cant say it enough,EV is the only lead singer to have the balls to consistently cover the Who,and cover them so well..I mean, who else would even attempt Love Reign Oer Me ???..and EV nails it.......

I would much rather hear these songs than RITFW any day, also I LOVE Fuckin Up..that is a classic.....and PJ dont play it enough IMO....actually,I would rather hear (at this point) Fuckin Up closing a gig, instead of Yellow Ledbetter...but,thats just me....
