Wasted Repride opens gig # 3 of 2006.Nice and slow,sounds good.Life Wasted follows with an opening wrong chord,and Ed's voice cracking all over the place.

Ed's voice seems to have settled down a bit for WWS.His vocals chords sound as if they are going to rip during the end scream.Decent version,but the band still sound off.Severed Hand continues the roll of new tunes,off PJ.IMO,Animal would have fit nicely here.Anyhow,good version.I like the tune,good beats throughout keeps the crowd grooving.

Evolution,finally an older tune.Sounds a littly shaky right off.Ed's voice is cracking again,during the high notes,but somehow manages to finish.This version doesnt have the fire it had N2 in Toronto.Ed comments how “it’s great to be back in the home of the River Rat” (Albany’s AHL team is the River Rats).“Big and small, clean and dirty.”

Normally, Id say this is a bad spot for Small Town.Ed mentions how "Im the one with the mic,that doesnt mean I have to do all the singing." This gives his voice a brief break.Solid crowd sing along.A classic,this one always goes over well.

GTF,a favorite of mine,is performed well.I can see Mike,head back and rifing hard here.This is another hard tune for Ed's voice.The bridge is the best part,the build up,he goes for it,and does well,somehow finding his voice.Matt's drumming is off at times,still a good version.

The rare classic Red Mosquito is dusted off this evening.I love this tune,and I would have been quite pleased here.Mike with the slide intro,the band sound good.For me,this is the main sets highlight tune,without question.

Even Flow is solid a usual,and is always a crowd pleaser.Its also a great tune.Solid jam here by the band.Stone giving a shout out to Matt “how about those vocals from Matt Cameron- I love Matt Cameron!” Kinda funny.Ed seems chatty,which is not always a positive.He mentions about reading the paper,and his "morning bottle of wine",then tax cuts,the draft,then of course Army Reserve follows.Decent tune off PJ,its ok.I can take it or leave it.

A very solid version of Daughter,is followed by Off He Goes.This one - two punch is what I suggested for Toronto.Nice blend of the acoustics,with Stone head bobbing no doubt.Jeffs bass sounds nice and clear on Daughter.Off He Goes sounds crisp.Really enjoy this tune.For me,this is the best segment of the main set.Band sound tight.Hey Matt,what do you think of Ed chanting "Parents teach your kids at home " ???? LOL

Gone, I like alot.Good feel.I can hear a fan say "Immortality" as Ed starts the chords for Gone.The fan thinks like me,as Immortality would have really given this set a boost,if it was played before Gone.

Grievance folllows,is out of place and just kills the mood.Nothing As It Seems would have fit perfectly.And,IMO,its a much better tune.

Jeremy,the classic.I love it,the song is quintessential PJ.Solid version.

Here is the WTF segment of the set.Marker in the Sand is awful,followed by the equally awful,and boring and going nowhere fast Comatose.Ugly,forced new tunes......skip them,these are not the tunes I want,as a fan,as far as ending the main set.They are sanwhiched inbetween Jeremy and Why Go ?.... Why ? I know they are off PJ,and this was the tour promoting PJ.Play one,or the other,in the middle portion of the set please.Why Go sounds very good, to end the set.

Hide Your Love Away,decent,a great tune yes,but not what Im looking for. I would have preferred a classic.Black or Better Man anyone ? Ed mentions about the set,as if he knows it wasnt the best.He tries to rationalise the set.He mentions about the "freaks" (diehards) wanting rare tunes,no doubt Im one of them......

Satans Bed is the shock song of the encore.Like it alot.Solid version.I dont like Booms organ on this though.Wishlist is ok,and is obviously for the casuals.Im fine with it.

"Going back to an earlier compliment,this ones for the freaks".Rats !!!!!!!!!! Yes ! First time played since Sept 23,1998.I would have flipped.The band is late,after Ed starts..thats ok..I would have loved it.

Porch ends the first encore.Great song,but at 12 min,way too long IMO.

Last Kiss.Popular with the cauals.Good sing along,Ed forgets the lyrics of course.Come Back follows,ok tune,terrible placement here.I would have been like "???".This is not a song Im looking for during the encores.Followed by Sad ? Ouch.That is indeed what this encore is,sad !! Where are the classics ? RVM please.Spin The Black Circle anyone ?? Nothingman ?? Corduroy pretty please ?? Animal just maybe ???? And yes,I like Sad,but no way does it deserve to be played here.

Crazy Mary I always enjoy,but Im sorry,something else had to have been played here.This is just a terrible encore IMO.

Alive ends the show.Not even this classic can save this pitiful,awful encore..maybe one of the worst encores imanginable.PJ are known for their mammoth,legendary encores..what the hell happened in Albany 2006 ? and to top it off,as if the band just couldnt resist,Stone says as the band are walking off stage "Bush has been working out hasnt he ?,looks like kinda buffer ?? Looks kinda chesty here "..WTF are you talking about Stone ? I assume there was a Bush doll in the crowd ?....Chesty ?? Good grief.

Eds voice cracking,wrong chords,God awful encores.Bad placement of Marker and Comatose to end the main set.Grievance has to go.8 songs in the main set is a bit much for me.Followed by 2 more no less during the encores.Weak show by PJs high standards.I would have been furious if I was in attendance,even with the bones they tossed with Red Mosquito and Rats.This gig,I will most definitely,never,ever bust out again.

Highlights are few : Red Mosquito,Daughter,Off He Goes and RATS.

(I don't think I can keep up with these length reviews!!!!!)

Don’t get me wrong, I love the classic openers like “Release,” “Sometimes,” “Long Road,” and “Oceans” but I think it’s great that they used “Wasted Reprise” (followed by what I now consider to be the “big three” from Avocado) to open a show in 2006. I know that it isn’t PJ’s style, but I think they could have done this much more often during their 2006 tour. Once again, this made for a stellar start to this Albany show.

The momentum continued right into “Do the Evolution.” I don’t know if I was in a good mood at the time, but this version really got me going – that sounds a bit weird but whatever. EV gets the crowd singing with a nice version of “Small Town” and then picks things back up again with “Given to Fly.” A very, very good start to this show.

Now EV states that they will be playing some rarer songs this evening and they start with a very solid version of “Red Mosquito.” Now I have admitted in the past that this isn’t one of my favourite PJ songs (I like it but it doesn’t rank in my top 50 – even top 70) but this rendition sounded quite good. If there were people in the audience that weren’t fans of this relatively unknown track, they must have been pleased with the band ripping into “Even Flow.” Classic PJ song (played too much, I guess) but I state this because I probably listen to too many PJ bootlegs.

Next is one from the new album that they didn’t play in Toronto, “Army Reserve.” I like this song – I put it just below the great tunes “Gone” and “Inside Job” from that album.

A nice pairing of “Daughter” and “Off He Goes” (although a similar pairing was done, more effectively, at the 2011-09-11 Toronto show) is now played. I love both of these songs and they fit relatively well here. May have been better immediately after “Even Flow” however, and then they could have played “Army Reserve.”

“Gone” (also not played at the previous Toronto shows) comes next. Nice version. I just mentioned that it could/should have followed “Army Reserve.” Maybe they wouldn’t have worked too well together, however.

Now they decide to bring out something from Binaural and play “Grievance,” a song EV seems to play when he’s upset about something (?). I do like this song – lots of energy/rage – but they have better ones of the same vein. I would suspect that a number of people in the crowd wouldn’t be that familiar with this one but they would have been with what came next – “Jeremy.” I am pleasantly surprised that they played this song all three times (so far) during this tour.

As they near the end of the main set, out comes “Marker in the Sand” and “Comatose.” I respect them for playing as much as they are from the new album but I am not a huge fan of either one of these songs. They finish the set with “Why Go,” a GREAT tune (although one of my least favourite on Ten – but that doesn’t really say anything, does it?)

Encore 1 is quite interesting: “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away” is one of my favourite songs by The Beatles and EV does a very nice job with it. Then comes “Satan’s Bed” which I believe hadn’t been played (well) since the 1990’s. They attempted it once early in the 2003 tour but they completely blew it. It’s probably my least favourite of the ten “normal” songs of Vitalogy but it’s still nice to hear. Next is “Sad,” one of their best non-albums tracks (although every rendition sounds the same to me), and then the wonderful return of “Rats” (if history serves me correctly). Like “Satan’s Bed,” “Rats” might be one of my least favourite songs from the album it is off of but it’s still great. The hardcore fans in Albany really got spoiled on this night. The set closes with a solid version of “Porch.” I feel they play this song just the right amount – not too often but often enough.

Encore 2 starts with “Last Kiss” which isn’t one of my favourite PJ covers. That said I did like some of the slower, more acoustic versions from the 2003 tour, so this one pales in comparison. I’m sure the crowd enjoyed it, however. “Come Back” is next to continue with the “fifties” feel and, in my opinion, this is not a good spot for this song. I won’t restate this in any more posts.

They end with “Crazy Mary” and “Alive” (what else can I say about the songs themselves that hasn’t already been said. I would guess the crowd was expecting more (YLB? RITFW?) to close the show but it ended there. “Alive” is a strong enough song to end a show on but maybe the crowd might have too much energy to usually finish with this one – kind of like U2 and “Streets.”

Highlights: The first five songs, Off He Goes, plus the return of Satan’s Bed and Rats
