Of course. I think "Faithfull," "Brain of J," and the single "Wishlist" would have all fit nicely on it. However, I read somewhere that they wanted balance and put three songs off of each album on Live on Two Legs. Well, it's almost true:

Ten: Even Flow, Black, and ????
Vs: Daughter, Go, and Small Town
Vitalogy: Better Man, Nothingman, and Corduroy
No Code: Red Mosquito, Hail Hail, and Off He Goes
Yield: Given to Fly, MFC, and Do the Evolution ...and "Untitled" which for some strange reason is considered to be a Yield tune by setlistfm - I guess they (and 10c even) mix it up with the "We're all crazy" version.

I've listened to Atlanta '94, Melbourne '95, and SLC '95 over the past week - all very solid. I plan to listen to Berlin '96 (again) next and then the two (Melbourne and Seattle) from '98.

I hadn't forgotten about Orpheum 94 - it too is excellent. I was just trying to be a bit efficient in my post and only list one boot per year. In my mind, as great as that Boston gig is, Atlanta is still better.

I'll let one of you make the first post for our reviews of Auburn Hills 2006.

You know, speaking of a song with the word "survive" in the title, I thought Beyonce and the rest of Destiny's Child would definitely play "I'm a Survivor" during the Super Bowl half-time show - but they did not. Go figure.

To save SOME face:

Auburn Hills/Detroit (2006-05-22)

We are now starting the second half of the first leg (i.e. show #9 of 16) of the 2006 tour and the band seems to feel it’s time to resort to some old (tried and true) tricks. In my mind, the best PJ shows open with a great slow, emotion-filled song followed by a no-holds-barred rocker and the audience at Auburn Hills got this with the one-two punch of “Long Road” and “Corduroy” – a great intro indeed that could only have been made better with the inclusion of the Pink Floyd cover “Interstellar Overdrive” between the two. I shouldn’t be so greedy, I suppose.

I like how they bring two of the big three, new songs next “World Wide Suicide” (the then-current hit) and “Severed Hand” (arguably an even better song than WWS) to promote Avocado. I think this works better than the “Severed Hand” intro used in a few of the earlier shows and even going right into these songs. I was also a bit surprised about the decision to separate “Life Wasted” from these other two.

If the casual fans were really “feeling” the previous two numbers, I’m sure they were thrilled to hear the opening notes of “Animal” – great song, great performance. Unfortunately, the momentum is killed by the decision to play “Marker in the Sand” next. You know what? I actually like this song a bit better than I did a few weeks ago – I’m being “flooded” into liking (parts of) it. However, they should have simply played this after “Severed Hand” and then went into “Animal.”

Great to hear “In Hiding” next – its tour debut. The performance may have been a bit tentative but it’s a great song nonetheless. They could have even saved it for an encore performance.

After missing the previous show in Cleveland, “Even Flow” is back with a vengeance. Yes, they probably play songs like this, “Alive,” “Better Man,” and “Corduroy” a bit too often but no way should they be shelved for more than a show or two at a time. They are true classic songs than I’d be very happy to hear if I was attending any given PJ show.

Great timing for “I Am Mine” comes next – gives everyone (crowd included) to catch their breath. It is indeed one of their best from their second decade. That said, where’s “Nothing as It Seems” these days?

It’s probably as good as a time as any to play “Army Reserve.” It’s a good song from the new album that would work well alternating each night with, say, “Gone” (already played by EV during the pre-show) or “Inside Job.” However, once it’s done, it’s time to pick things back up a bit and they attempt to do so by playing “Insignificance.” I’ve stated before that I like this song – and I do! – but I think a more casual-fan-friendly song might have been in order. “Not for You” or “Last Exit,” anyone? Fortunately, the classic “Garden” makes an appearance next to bring us back to the 1990’s, if only for a moment. You guys are right, however. The performances of this song are too short.

I like the “Wasted” combo that comes next. The two work very well together – even nowadays. However, I think they should have saved this for one of the encores – probably the first one.

Once again, EV’s ordering comes into question as they play a rockin’ version of “State of Love and Trust” but absolutely kill the momentum by playing “Come Back” next. I want them to play new stuff but how about swapping these two songs which would then lead to closing the main set with “SOLAT,” “Jeremy,” and “RVM?” Those three songs were performed very well and would have worked so much better together.

Encore 1 is very nice but also very quiet for the most part. “Man of the Hour,” “Small Town,” (supposedly there was a mistake during the song – I missed it), and “Nothingman” (they messed up the beginning – serves them right for keeping on the “shelf” until now) are all played well and sound great as a threesome. An excellent performance of “Inside Job” picks things up slightly and the encore finishes with a rip-roaring performance of “Alive” – I still love it!

Encore 2 is much louder – and longer. They go very heavy and fast for the first three songs by playing “Whipping,” “Do the Evolution,” (both well done), and (snuck in) “Comatose.” I must have been in a good mood because it seemed to be done quite quickly. “Given to Fly” and “Why Go” get things back on track while EV challenges that “Porch” had not been played since 1984...I mean 1994. Ed, you must like this version as it too omits the usual extended guitar solo. Now it would seem that after six songs, it’s time to end the show with “Indifference” (always played well – except when Ben Harper joins in as I don’t like guest singers unless their name is Chris Cornell). However, it’s time to “Kick Out The Jams,” which I’ve only recently start to appreciate and, of course close with “Yellow Ledbetter.”

Highlights: Long Road, Corduroy, Animal, In Hiding, Even Flow, I Am Mine, SOLAT, Jeremy, RVM, Nothingman, Alive, Porch, and Indifference

Rating: 4.5 stars.

Thanks for convincing me to not skip these past three shows – they were great.

The emotional classic Long Road opens.I have always said, this tune is simply not played enough.Sounds great.Corduroy is next,IMO this song is a perfect #2 song.WWS-SH are next,and I like not having LW following them.Animal is another top 5 song of mine,great version here.THE BAND ARE ON.Great opening to this show.But wait,time for Marker in the Sand,it is awful,terrible placement.Kills the great run.

In Hiding is great,terrible placement.Its too mellow.Even Flow is back,love it..really top version here as Mike goes off,showing his chops,doing his usual ballistic solos.I Am Mine is a classic,but this tune should never follow Even Flow.Up and down,up and down.No even flow at all (sorry,I had to).Army Reserve is decent,Insignificant was ok in 2000,problem is,this show was in 2006,a full 6 years later.No need for this song.

Garden is another early favorite of mine,this version is an absurd 3:38 seconds.No need to cut out half of this great song.Still,it is a classic and it is always welcomed for me.

Wasted Reprise > LW is always fun.Its the PJ tour,so I have no problem with the new mateial being showcased.

Chris Chelios of the Detroit Red Wings was side stage,as Ed made numerous mentions of him,and even shared his wine with him during the latter portions of the show.

I love SOLAT,really rocking version here,but as Matt pointed out,the mellow Come Back follows.What was Ed thinking here ? C'Mon Ed.The great Jeremy > RVM is the highlight of the main set.Both are classic PJ.. Crowd go absolutely wild for Jeremy,and sing along loud.

This set could have looked so much better with a few tunes moved,and or dropped.Marker out,In Hiding played before a closing run of Wasted Reprise,LW,SOLAT,Jeremy,RVM.

Encore 1

A surprise Man of the Hour starts off the encore.I like this tune,not bad.Ed tells the crowd "this is a fresh bottle of wine here", so we know they will be around a while.Ed jokes with the crowd,saying "Stone might actually knows this one",the band start up Small Town.The crowd love it,and I have no problem with its placement here.The classic Nothingman follows.I love this song,and I would have flipped.No,these versions are not like Milan,06.22.00..but nothing can top those versions.A false start during Nothingman's intro.Ed is in a great mood,asking the crowd about their "faith in the band now ?" They try again,the crowd are ready,and take over.I Am Mine would have fit in great here.But the solid Inside Job is played.Hmmm,IMO,this tune should have been in the main set,in lieu of Insignificant.

Black would have ended this set (with I Am Mine in the encore) on a perfect note.Alive is great,but for me would have fit in better during the wild second encore.Perhaps played instead of Comotose ? Yeah,I'd be cool with that.

Encore 2

I love this rocking encore.Whipping into a frenetic version of Evolution,has the crowd in a near frenzy.Comatose dampens the mood (try Alive here,and see how this encore changes).The great GTF (another top song for me) is performed.This classic is usually played early in the set,but Ed is up for it,and its a top version.Why Go,another classic,is now performed.Great placement.Crowd are going nuts now.Why Go home indeed !!!

Whats this ? Porch ? Now ?..very nice...Ed is all over the place with his years (1984 ?)..its the wine...Yes,Matt I love this version..Ed chatty..a rocking under 5 min Porch..a keeper.I love it..crowd lose control here.This is how encores should be.

Now,yet another favorite song of mine,Indifference,cools the crowd.Its so great.Crowd are fine with it,they catch their breath,and sing along.

Ed says that Detroit should’ve been given the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,because of its rich music history,and then proceed's to play Kick out the Jams,by Detroit’s MC5. Wild version.Yellow Ledbetter ends this amazing 2nd encore,with Mike playing the Star-Spangled Banner.

4 3/4 stars ( I wanted to go with 5 stars,a stretch ?..maybe,so I took a half star off,for the odd placement of tunes,and lack of Black.)

This show has always been a favorite of mine.The band were on fire this evening.Alive should have been played instead of Comotose,during encore 2.

Add Black to end encore 1.I Am Mine (after Small Town) > Black would have been epic.

Highlights are a plenty: Long Road,Animal,In Hiding,Even Flow,I Am Mine,SOLAT,JEREMY,RVM,NOTHINGMAN,Inside Job,WHIPPING,EVOLUTION,GTF !!!,Why Go,PORCH,INDIFFERENCE and no question KICK OUT THE JAMS !!
