    To be honest, I wouldn't have become as big as a fan of PJ as I have over the past two years if it weren't for their bootlegs. The studio albums range from great (Ten, Vs, Vitalogy) to meh (the last couple of albums) but it's the live performances of most of these songs that really make it for me.

    I agree Matt,and the reason you love the live performances so much is bacause its got that great loud,banging sound to it..like Ten had..before the demo,mumbled sounds of No Code Yeild and Binaural.

  4. I suppose it has to do with the whole 15th anniversay of Yield but there's a lot of discussion over at 10c about them releasing those 1998 shows. One member went as far as to write a letter to PJ asking them to release them!

    Here's hoping the band listens.

    I think Nirvana released two, fantasitic, five-star albums. They are both classics and are/were definitely influential, both musically and commercially. I cannot knock them one bit. However, I appreciate your comments, Ed, about Cobain's inability to be a good father...hey, maybe it was THAT disappointment in himself that truly led to his demise.

    I won't even get started on Courtney Love - at least as a human being - although some of Hole's music did rock - if only because it was heavily influenced by Cobain, and later Billy Corgan.


    Kurt is one of the most controversial character on the scene for sure.
    he never searched for a "hit" even though he put some little "pop" ingredients .. mostly the sound was rounded post production, both for Nevermind and In Utero, when he got sick of all the attempt od imposition after the conclusion of the recording. Butch Vig production and mix are much more rough than the final result. same thing for In Utero maybe even more .. and the live versions testisfy that.

    ...that truly led to his demise.

  7. after all the thoughts about live are better the studio album i was wondering which are the cases of the opposite .. i can't admittely find one .. talking about REAL rock band of course hehe

    I tend to listen to the first 2 albums,and even Vitalogy alot..I almsot never listen to No Code,Yeild and Binaural.The live versions are are so much better.

    Riot Act,PJ and Backspacer actually sound clean,loud and crisp to me...

    I have no problem with PJ's studio albums (especially the first five - even No Code and Yield) but I've listened to them all so many times I'm almost tired of the studio versions. The live versions give new life to these songs. I love hearing EV's voice strain, the crowds cheering during and between songs, the flow from a classic song from Ten go directly into a classic from Vs or Vitalogy.

    This is also true for most of the other bands that I listen to...I haven't listened to albums like War, Definitely Maybe, The Bends, or In Utero in ages - I've given them enough spins for one lifetime. However, I listen to Red Rocks, Live at the Metro, MTV Ten Spot, and that Roma concert where most of the songs from the aforementioned albums are played, They sound great and have songs from other sources mixed in!

I love the Vitalogy sound and, like you said Matt, Eddie's vocal strain.Listening to Blood just makes you think: how in God's name can Eddie's scream like that?! I can still listen to Ten and Vs. too. But, I do agree with Ed when he says that the sound on Yield, and especially No Code, sound like shit. Terribly produced with Eddie mumbling all over No Code. I struggle to listen to both of those albums through headphones. I'm not tired of them as such, there's just specific things I can't stand about the album. The songs are great, however.

    Its a shame they were recored that way..so many great tunes,and they sound awful..
