  1. Jack Irons will not return. With the length of shows and the setlist variation that Pearl Jam like to do, Irons would reject purely for that matter. Chad Smith, on the other hand, would be a terrific drummer although it really depends on RHCP's touring schedule, and I'm guessing they will be making a new album soon. He also has his Meatbats band too.

    I was going to suggest Dave Grohl until I remembered that he has many projects already and it may be a little weird.

    Wouldn't mind a certain Mr Dave A. back behind the helm. Or even Dave Krusen?

    Chad Smith is a "classic" but I think the band should try to find someone a little more permanent.

    I can see why one might feel, however, that PJ doesn't need a permanent drummer.
  3. They really don't need a permanent drummer....think about it....they are a part time band,they get together for a few festival gigs,and maybe a mini tour once a year....a guest drummer could handle that quite easily.

    I play drums. Chad Smith is an awesome drummer but RHCP play 19-20 song sets that run a little more than an hour and a half with very little setlist variation. Don't underestimate The importance of MC. The dude is a machine. I think they definitely need a permanent drummer. He's the glue and with length of shows and the variation he's def an important part of the live shows. I understand the point of them being a part time band but my mindset is that they'll get back to full time soon ( hopefully)and they'll need him more than ever lol I go through phases of hating some of my bands but Muse has filled the spot for now so I still have love for PJ no matter how much they tour

    The way I look at it,they didnt tour "full on" after Backspacer was released.Which,I still cant understand.Yes,they played a bunch of shows out west,in Sept 2009,but they havent returned since.(Over 3 years on,and the band havent played a single show in Seattle.)They took a couple of weeks off,then played 4 gigs on the east coast in Philly.I was lucky enough to attend 2 of these shows(10.28 & 30.09).They went on to Australia (solid tour),but then,for some unforsaken reason,folded the tents for 6 full months.How was that supporting Backspacer ?

    More frustrating,the mini May 2010 tour,the band sounded amazing.I saw the band 3 times,Newark (05.18) and MSG (05.20 & 21) X2.Why would they tour for only 2 weeks ? And why 9 months after Backspacer was released ???? They should have been touring from Sept 09 - to early Dec 09.....then say pick it up again mid Jan 2010 until April 2010.That would have been a nice supporting tour.

    So what Im saying is this..if they didnt go full out to support Backspacer in 2009 - 2010,why would they do it now,or in 2014 ? or whenever this album is released ...
  6. I guess I never gave Matt Cameron enough credit? With a new drummer, maybe the band would have to reduce the number of songs they play per "tour" to "just" 50 or so!

    Hopefully they'll play the "right" 50 songs.

    about the drummer .. it has been a "problem" since day 0 .. Matt C already gave the boys a hand in The Gossman Project
    Nick said all about his skills and he's the best of every PJ had
    but if it has to come to a choice he should go for Soundgarden .. not because they're better or what .. but because he belongs to Soundgarden first
    Chad Smith? no thanks one Red Hot drummer is enough in PJ history hehehe .. kidding
    someone Abbruzzese (Kieran right?) .. ask Eddie and Mike if they would be happy to have him back hehe
    i would really love Dave Grohl .. as i did back in 1994 and 1995 when he was touring with Eddie and Mike Watt
    but he's always full of whims .. new Foo Fighters album now it seems .. so we don't need another one of that kind in case, do we? hehe
    if it should ever happen .. i would like a drummer with a certain cultural background .. meaning "grunge" of course
    Regan Hagar (Brad) woudl fit quite well .. even more Richard Stuverud who played drums in the old bands of Jeff and now with RNDM too .. and if a drummer has to have a great alchemy with the bassist .. well they know each other very well ... and had a very good credits in Seattle Scene back in the years
    another name could be Barrett Martin .. Skin Yard, Screaming Trees, Mad Season and many many collaborations (REM too) .. awesome drummer .. what else do you need?
    if you're afraid that the "new" drummer wouldn't last the looooooooong sets and the always possible surprises at any timethen there is just one name just to be sure ... Mighty Max Weinberg .. but you have to face The Boss first hehehe
  8. I was actually joking about Abbruzzese. I was thinking about this the other day, actually. In 2016, which is a long time away, I know, they will most likely be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's certain that Irons and Krusen will make an appearance but it's the question whether Abbruzzese would. Of course he would love to as he was proud of being in Pearl Jam for those three years. But would the rest of the band accept him being there? I think there is a time where the band will have to accept it and talk to him again and invite him back for one last appearance. I think the sort of 'hatred' towards Abbruzzese was petty and childish from both Vedder and McCready - especially Mike's "pfft" at the 1996 Grammy Awards.

    I don't think Pearl Jam will ever get rid of Matt Cameron. It will stay as it is and this getting another drummer to replace him to play more live shows will never become reality. As someone said a few posts back, Cameron is a machine. He could play forever. He's a fantastic drummer and is versatile but he has a couple of flaws in my opinion - one of them being his tempo when playing. It's like he wants the song over as quickly as possible.

    This touring problem that is constantly being complained about, however, might become staple forever. It isn't just Cameron's fault, it's Eddie's as well. He wants to play solo shows and because of Soundgarden as well, Pearl Jam have to somehow fit their tour into a schedule. There's also Brad and RNDM too which affects PJ's schedule. I understand everyone's frustration though - especially those of America who haven't seen the band in a full scale tour for almost three years now. I'm hoping there is a fall tour as rumoured at the end of the year for you all. Then to Europe ASAP

    I totally understand. I was at those 3 shows as well and the band was on fire. Trust me...... I'm Dying to see them againg and want nothing more than a full tour this year but I just think MC is way more important to PJ than one might think. He's a beast, He candle handle both bands.
  10. You can also see it this way. At least they have shows almost each year, ok, not a full tour but still. With U2 you have to normally wait 4-5 years. Never read here how long it was ago Dublin saw a U2 show

    Regarding the current situation, Eddie had to postpone his final leg till the end of last year, else he would have been ready a while ago.
    Now RNDM have already another album in the making, Stone is with Brad and working on a solo album and MC has some more legs with SG. So now it's more Eddie and Mike waiting for the rest.

    Important will be the vibe/band feeling after the South America shows. They're finally together again then, so
    they can look each other in the eye and talk about how to go from here.

    Think MC will return to PJ. Don't see Soundgarden make another album soon, if at all.

  11. About the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as Kieran mentioned in an earlier post):
    I think it's a no-brainer that they'll be inducted in their first year of eligibility but there are individuals on the 10c forum (I know, I shouldn't "creep" it the way I do) that think they won't get in until their first second or even third try!
