Agree with you Ed, would not have them on the stage, you will always have people who think they're guilty and people think they're innocent. Dangerous thing to do.

Jeff Soto just created a PJ Seattle print, hint hint?

Yes.If PJ (or EV) wanted to have a rally for them.Fine So be it.But to drag them onstage ??? At a PJ concert ??????

    Beyond belief.
  2. Camden 2 (2006-05-28)

I’m hoping Night 2 is better performance than the first one.

Things start off very well with a rare performance of “Wash.” Embarrassingly, this is a song I didn’t know very well two years ago. I may have heard it a few times when I listened to Lost Dogs but for whatever reason, I didn’t take much notice of it. Admittedly, it’s not at the same level of “Release” – and I am somewhat surprised that they hadn’t played “Oceans” or “Sometimes” before this one but I should definitely not complain – so I won’t.

After the build up of “Wash” it’s time to pull out a big gun and there really is no better second song in the PJ canon than “Go.” Wow, they nailed this performance. GREAT start!

    Let’s have an on-going star-rating in this review...so far, five-stars!

Before “Go” completely fades out, “WWS” fades in. Great segue – and performance. My attitude to this show is very positive right now and am expecting great things to come. Fingers crossed.

“Severed Hand” is next, as it should be. These two Pearl Jam songs make a great pair. They should revisit this combination again in future shows.

There’s no stopping these guys tonight! Once again, before one song ends another begins – and this time it’s a marvelous (I’ve yet to use this adjective in any of my previous reviews) performance of “Corduroy.”

And now it’s time to speak to the audience...no, it’s not! They go right into “Save You!” Holy crap! They are on fire – even you, Ed, have to appreciate this performance.

Rating check: At this point, we are at best show on the tour. Five stars, obviously. The crowd is going nuts!

NOW, we get an intro. Good evenings all around followed by “on the 7th day, God said you will rock your ass off” – and right into “Given to Fly.” No time is being wasted on this night.

I suppose the show loses an “only hits” designation as “Army Reserve” is next but it’s understandable that they play something else from the new release. “Grievance,” another semi-protest song, follows. It’s not a popular as some of the earlier ones but the energy is still pretty high.

Time to slow things down somewhat and this is done with “Gone” – nice song, nice performance. That said, it’s time for a hit and they don’t get much bigger than “Even Flow.” Well played.

I always say that you (well, PJ) can play anything after “Even Flow” and they do so by pulling out a semi-rarity from the last album, “You Are.” It’s a good song (not a great one) but you gotta appreciate how they are going through all of their albums – well, no No Code at this point. We’ll see...

“Wishlist” keeps the set moving along. A nice song (which didn’t end abruptly this time around) but it’s time to pick things back up. They do so (somewhat) with “Satan’s Bed.” I’d guess that many long-time fans would have been quite happy with song – they do have better ones, however. Too bad “Tremor Christ” was omitting completely for the North American legs of this tour.

The short version of “Garden” is played next. I can’t believe how quickly the song is over. “Garden” is a classic but this show is now lost some of its early energy and then need to go on all cylinders now. The fasted paces “Whipping” definitely breathes some new life into the set as does “Life Wasted.” Still, I think they need to play a mega-hit – it’s been too long since we’ve heard one in the show. In fact, I think the star rating has dropped to 4.5, or even 4. The former-casual-fan in me is starting to creep in and I’m getting a bit bored. Fortunately, “RVM” is played (love it). Admittedly, this one goes on for quite some time, however, and I think a more “efficient” performance would have suited this part of the show better.

Encore1 begins (again) with “Wasted Reprise” and “Man of the Hour.” There’s no point in rehashing how I feel about these two songs together – just doesn’t work. They should just have omitted “Reprise” altogether. Fortunately, following “MOTH” (ha!) with “Parachutes” works well for me. They seem to be carrying on the tradition of the first encore being rather subdued/quiet. The theme continues with strong performance of “Black” – which isn’t unusual.

As you may have guess – and unlike previous shows where I write my review AFTER I’ve listened to the entire show, I’m writing this one as I listen through the concert. So as “Black” nears its end (with a tag of The Police’s “So Lonely”), I am predicting that they will play “Alive” next to close the encore....and....I am....wrong. Good. “Crazy Mary” begins and I am happy to hear it. It’s a pretty solid version – Boom ends it with a rather extreme organ solo. Of course, now “Alive” is performed to end the encore. It’s a nice version but not as good as some of the other versions on this tour.

I’m sure the band must be running out of gas but some quick, heavy (but not lacking melody) songs are required and they are given. “Last Exit” (a great song to start an encore – especially the second one), a speedy (but clean) “Do the Evolution,” and “Glorified G” (dedicated to Dick Cheney) are all played with enthusiasm and energy. As “GG” winds down, I starting to wonder if they’ll try to slip “Comatose” in there again...and they do. A PJ set isn’t as “random” as some may lead you to believe. Fortunately, they’ve (re)embraced “Leash” and play it again to get things back on track. This performance is better than the debut. However, (and I will admit this comment was inspired by someone else) I think the band may have outgrown this song...”Drop the leash, we are young.” Well, you’re not that young!

Well, we’re nearing the end of the show and I doubt we’ll hear “RITFW” tonight as it was played the night before. So what will it be? ..... yes, “Baba O’Riley!” EV does a great scream after the first “it’s only teenage wasteland.” By the way, who/what was Baba O’Riley anyway?

According to wikpedia: The title of the song (Baba O’Riley) is derived from the combination of the song's philosophical and musical influences, Meher Baba and Terry Riley

“Yellow Ledbetter” closes. They closed with it last night, for crying out loud!

Highlights: The seven-song run (“Wash” all the way to and including “Given to Fly”) that starts the show and a good portion (but not all) of the second encore.

Rating: 4 stars. I suppose it was impossible for them to maintain that early intensity.
  3. West Memphis Three were still in jail at that time .. released in 2011 i guess .. 18 years in jail and no clear evidence they were guilty for sure
the 3 on stage were not the West Memphis ones but 3 that were freed after the DNA test (thanks to Innocent Project) revealed they were wrongly convicted and spent something like 45 years (in total) in jail .. that is disgusting not that they were on stage. .. at a PJ concert? well civil social politic matters whatever had always been in PJ .. on stage .. songs and other stuff that i find honorable.
knowing PJ you know what you could go through .. if you don't like it's your problem
i can't go to any fascist band and then say i don't like they show it
my immeasurable love for band like PJ U2 Clash and others also beyond their music .. i can't support them if they disgust me in some way .. don't tell me it should be just music cause in certain case it's not .. but that's me .. no mean to say people what to do and no offense mean .. just my thought

    sorry parenthesis open and close
  4. True Ronnie, it's beyond music which makes these bands outstanding. My reference to danger was more to the fact it maybe could have started some riot, but not sure how sensitive this case was around that time. On the other hand, it's hard to keep that in mind, also with Bush Leager in Nassau, it's a risk they take.

    Thanks, Ron...

Wow, the link went straight to download!
  8. ^ Admittedly, as much as I like the rarities, I need me some "Corduroy" and "Alive" in my mixes.
  9. The band just posted this on their twitter account. It goes from "amazing" to "fucking awesome" from 3:45 on.

  10. Men, men, men listening to black when you are having trouble with your girl (Or wife, man whatever)
