1. For me:

    Spin the Black Circle
    Not For You
    Immortality
    Whipping
    Last Exit
    Better Man
    Corduroy
    Nothingman
    Tremor Christ
    Satan's Bed
-and the rest can fend for themselves-

    Vitalogy is a sublime album.
  2. NOTHINGMAN
    IMMORTALITY
    NFY
    Corduroy
    Better Man
    STBC
    Tremor Christ
    Last Exit
    Whipping
    Satans Bed

    The rest is nonsense.......

As great as a song "Whipping" is, however, I would probably rank it only at #8 on Vitalogy. Shows what a solid album it is, I suppose.

The first 3 albums I still play quite alot..after that...live only please....
  4. Nice. A ranking...

Going back to 1994 (when I first heard Vitalogy) two songs immediately hit a chord with me - "Better Man" and "Corduroy." I realize that this isn't a very original preference but these two songs are true classics and I have always loved them - and always will love them. In fact, I put "Corduroy" at #2 on my all-time favourite PJ songs - right behind "Alive."

Next has gotta be "Immortality" - this song is a true gem. I love the guitar solo and EV's final verse. Sooooooo good.

In fourth place is "Not For You." Great, great tune, both musically and lyrically. The "Modern Girl" tag on he more-recent live versions puts it among their best.

It gets a bit trickier after this but I'll have to go with "Last Exit" (great rocker) and then the polar opposites of "Spin the Black Circle" (probably the band's wildest song but sometimes not in the mood for the insanity of it all) and "Nothingman" (a beautiful ballad that, admittedly, for years I thought was a bit...soft. I don't feel that way anymore).

I've already put "Whipping" at #8 and then would let "Tremor Christ" and "Satan's Bed" battle it out for the ninth and tenth positions. I think these are two good songs - just not GREAT ones.

Like the rest of you, I have no need for any of the other "songs."
  5. My appreciation for 'Nothingman' increased as soon as I heard the live acoustic version. I love that song now.

  6. There are soooooo many great shows available from 2000 (especially this year), 2003, 2005 (that 2005 SA tour is supposedly a classic - admittedly, I've never listened to them but I will one day), and 2006.

    Get on them, Aidan!!!

  7. Me, too.

As I mentioned before, the studio version of the song lacks the angst that the live performances provide. I feel the same way about "Off He Goes" - good on the album, outstanding in concert. In both cases, the strain you can hear in EV's voice takes these songs to another level.
  8. Everything from No Code sounds better live........

    same goes for Yield...

cant believe its been 15 yrs since the release of Yield...loved that tour.........dang.....Im getting old.......wow
  9. The first Pearl Jam album I listened to - loved the artwork back then and I still love it now.

  10. I have a framed picture of this (well, the right side of it) on my wall (in my garage) - it's from the South Pacific Tour (has all of the dates from that leg).

    I attended the Auckland show.
