1. FasterLouder reports that Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and Crowded House’s Neil Finn will be contributing a track to a new Hunters & Collectors tribute compilation. Vedder has covered “Throw Your Arms Around Me” live before so this could be the track they’re covering, but the tracklisting has not been unveiled yet.
  2. Oh darn I after reading 'FasterLouder reports that Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and Crowded House’s Neil Finn will be'... I thought they were going to do a tour together before/after the BDO shows! That would have been great..
  3. Quite unique, second drawing for the added Worcester date.
Might this be the benchmark for a second show in Seattle? Wondering if that is going to happen.

I have to say, I haven't listened to this disc in ages. I liked it a lot when it came out, but after maybe 6 months I grew tired of it.

I decided to listen to it this morning on my jog in Battery Park. Backspacer has quite a few average to below average tunes on it IMO.

That's too many when theres only 11 tunes and its only 36 min long.

Gonna See My Friend..... Average tune

Got Some. Average at best. why are they still playing this ?

Fixer. Good. I like the music... But I'm so sick of it..no staying power for me and way too POP sounding for PJ ..... hey hey hey Hey. "When something's broke let me put a little fixing on it ". ?!? Ouch that's bad. Similar to Get on your Boots ,good music. Terrible lyrics

Johnny Guitar. Not good. Actually painfully bad

Just Breathe. A classic. Love it.

    Amongst The Waves. Good tune

Unthought Known. Good tune. A bit overplayed in the sets though. Don't need to hear this one anymore

Supersonic. Not good. A filler if there ever was one. I still can't believe they played this below average tune at the IOW....

    Speed of Sound. Good tune

Force of Nature. Good tune ,like this a lot actually

The End. Love it ,for me this is the crown jewel of Backspacer.

I hope Lightning Bolt is better then Backspacer

    Thoughts ?

    agree 110%.

maybe PJ worst album ever. heck, it almost sounds like Into The Wild Part 2 (aka yet another Ed solo effort..... (do we need anymore???))

Just Breathe - ok, it's simple n cute n all that, but when Ed starts humming, i get the chills (and not in a positive way!!). Sounds like that dude from Crash Test Dummies for chrissakes!!

the new single sounds very throwaway too. is this the best they can come up with in 4 years?! well, i'm not too excited about their new release so far.

i'm also getting a bad vibe reg U2's next album. it's not always positive when a band uses 4 years to make another record (i know, i know, they toured in-between, but still.....)

did anyone get excited about Mercy, Glastonbury or the dreaded Stingray shite?? me neiter.

enough of me ranting, i can go on a bit. let's meet down at the pub instead!

This can be answered with a simple YES!! (Personal opinion )
  6. I hope this release is better then the title.....

Jeez who thought that one up ??

I can't say that I am much of a fan of the album at all. Aside from "Unthought Known" (which I quite like) and the two slow ones (which, for me, have lost quite a bit of their initial luster over the past year), I really don't think the album is very good when compared to the rest of their catalog.

All of this said, I think I can count on the number of times I've listen to the actual album on one hand. I have heard all of the songs many times more as live versions - and I don't need to hear "Got Some" and "The Fixer" ever again.

    Amen
  9. Here's a way to help this thread make a bit of a come back: Let's critique a song and your own personal "history" with it. Now, now. I'm not trying to get "heavy" here and end up getting TMI.

In any case, I'll start with "Wishlist" (as opposed to something somewhat obvious, like "Better Man" or "Alive")

Upon its release in 1998, I have to admit I wasn't a huge fan of "Wishlist." It started to grow on me much later on - I mean YEARS later. I think the best performance of the song come from 2000 (I only have a few versions from 1998 that I really should revisit). The end lyrics, "I wish I was the radio song, the one you couldn't run off" are quite nice in these early performances. Nowadays, it seems to go on forever and/pr EV screws up the lyrics.

I don't know if I'll give an overall rating but just state my favourite live performance comes from the West Palm Beach show in 2000.

Feel free to add your own thoughts on this song. When we've said enough, we can move on to another.

Admittedly, I'd like to end up getting everyone's favourite version of several PJ songs so I can, you know, make the ULTIMATE compilation one day.
  10. Pearl Jam (like DMB) are so powerful live, there are 2 specific performances that brought me back into the fold. The first is the 2nd infamous night at Randalls Island,09.29.96.

Its safe to say I pretty much hated No Code upon its release in '96. The sound was flat on each and every song. I was very into Oasis and Radiohead at this time , and I stopped listening to U2 after the 1992 Zoo TV Tour.

Once I heard Sometimes live and the rest of the songs on No Code live, I really got back into PJ. That show was amazing.
